Just tried cvt. For some reason it wont accept a refresh rate other than 60Hz to calculate a reducedblanking modeline. Why is that?

You have a broken version?

$ cvt 1920 1200 75 -r

# 1920x1200 @ 75.00 Hz Reduced Blank (CVT)
# field rate 74.94 Hz; hsync: 93.15 kHz; pclk: 193.75 MHz
