Default installing NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers on FC5

I followed the steps in the "Notes on installing NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers on recent distributions" posted by zander on 6-26-06. However,
#sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7676-pkg1.run
failed to install the driver for FC5:

Can anyone help. Thanks. The following is what in /var/log/nvidia-installer.log:

1.0-7676 is no longer supported (and hasn't been for quite some time). Please use 1.0-8774.

Thanks,
Lonni

It amazes me how people even pick up the old driver file in the first place.

Where did you get the driver yzz? Certainly you checked www.nvidia.com first?

I have 1.0-8774 but i cant get it to install.
When I put "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8774-pkg1.run" into the console it says that there is no such file. When I click on the file itself it say that it could not open the file and can't detect the character coding.

I do not have a log for it.

Can anyone help?

Have you tried chmod +x?
If that doesn't work your download is corrupted.

Default Re: installing NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers on FC5

Is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8774-pkg1.run in your current working directory when trying to install the driver? It sounds like you're attempting to run this command from a location that isn't the same as you downloaded the file. Also, you need to exit X to install the driver, so clicking on it with a mouse will not work.

Please see the driver README for more information.

Thanks,
Lonni

1.0-8174 isn't expected to install under FC5 (and is no longer supported). Please answer the questions that I and others have asked about 1.0-8774.

Thanks,
Lonni

Default Re: installing NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers on FC5

I tried to install 8174 because of the information on this page:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/gelato_cert_drivers.html
Answers to an earlier question:

I got the 7676 driver from nvidia's site. As soon I opened nvidia's site, I searched "Quadro FX 1000" and picked the following site which I thought was most related:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_20010601_3255.html

Anyway, 8774 installed fine, however, when I ran a grogram that use hardware stereo, I got two frames up-and-down, instead of two alternating "left" and "right" frames. My monitor can handle 140 Hz vertical sync, but there is no place to set this explicitly. How do I make it work for hardware stereo?

Thanks.

Please generate and provide an nvidia-bug-report.log along with the software which reproduces this problem.

Thanks,
Lonni
