Default Xorg Crash with nvidia drivers

Hi,

This morning I have try to upgrade my debian as every day, and unfortunaly now Xorg crash with the nvidia drivers.

When I want to reinstall the nvidia drivers, the installer say me :

ERROR: The runtime configuration check failed for the library
'libnvidia-tls.so.1.0.8774' (expected:
'/emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.1', found:
'/usr/lib32/libnvidia-tls.so.1'). The most likely reason for this is
that conflicting OpenGL libraries are installed in a location not
inspected by `nvidia-installer`. Please be sure you have uninstalled
any third-party OpenGL and/or third-party graphics driver packages.

libnvidia-tls.so.1 is install by the installer ..... (installer crasy ?)

With nv driver xorg works.
And this morning before the apt-get upgrade nvidia driver works too ...
I don't know what update make this but I really need help ... ?

Thanks a lot.

The driver installation failure doesn't look to have been fatal, as X didn't run into any problems using it. The X crash doesn't look to be in the nvidia X driver, but elsewhere. Does X start with the nv or vesa X drivers?

Thanks,
Lonni

Where did '/emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.1' come from? Are you running X in a chroot or some other alternative environment?

it is 32 lib that the official driver install.

I have the same problem when I reply "no" when I want to install 32b libs.
But the file is /usr/lib/tls/libnvidia ...

The 64b tls AND the 32b have the same problem

If I install only 64b driver the message is :

ERROR: The runtime configuration check failed for the library
'libnvidia-tls.so.1.0.8774' (expected:
'/usr/lib/tls/libnvidia-tls.so.1', found:
'/usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.1'). The most likely reason for this is that
conflicting OpenGL libraries are installed in a location not inspected
by `nvidia-installer`. Please be sure you have uninstalled any
third-party OpenGL and/or third-party graphics driver packages.

As you can see it is the same problem ... :-/

'/emul/ia32-linux/usr/lib/tls/' is not a location where the driver would normally install anything, and I've not seen a Debian x86_64 installation with that path either, unless that's something relevatively new.

Are you running a 32bit X server in a 64bit kernel? I'm just trying to understand where that /emul path originated.

Thanks,
Lonni

this path appear when I replay "yes" when nvidia drivers ask me about install glx 32bits drivers (but the 64b still at /usr/lib/....)

The both are install.

So take just the last message and you can see that only 64 is install.

An other information, this morning when I upgrade debian, xserver-xorg-core have a new version.

look my error :
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the GLX module; please check in your X
(EE) NVIDIA(0): log file that the GLX module has been loaded in your X
(EE) NVIDIA(0): server, and that the module is the NVIDIA GLX module. If
(EE) NVIDIA(0): you continue to encounter problems, Please try
(EE) NVIDIA(0): reinstalling the NVIDIA driver.

but X still works (with no glx).

When i reinstall Nvidia driver he say me that /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so is not a symolic link.

And when I delete this file and reinstall driver i have same error that in my last message.

So I think debian team upgrade xorg but glx nvidia part doesn't like this change ...

What specifically did you update that triggered this problem? It seems odd that no one else is reporting these problems.

so the 8 september no problem appear.

9 september : boot ok (kernel 2.6.15)
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

and after that the 1st error that I've reported.

after thar try to install only 64bits driver -> same error
upgrade on a 2.6.17 kernel -> same error
try legacy drivers -> same problem
try with "nv" driver -> it is ok

10 september :
apt-get update & apt-get dist-upgrade -> xserver-xorg-core (principally)

result : my post this morning. libglx etc ...

Now i am with xserver-xorg-core libglx.so instead of nvidia because X start with but with no 3D

If I reinstall nvidia driver properly -> same error that begining, (signal 11 ...)

I post here but i know the drivers works before, but not with the new update ... !
