Default multiple kernels simultaneously without recompiling interfaces

I'm running Slackware 10.2 with several kernels (2.4.31, 2.6.12, 2.6.15). Found out the hard way that the modules and/or the kernel interface must be recompiled each time the kernel is changed. It seems that there can exist only one set of nVidia modules/interface. Why is this? Is there a way to compile the modules/interface for each kernel and have it persist (like all the other modules) through kernel switches? This thread (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=62614) talks about using switches when running the installer. How do I use switches? Also, can someone help me to understand kernel interfaces? I have a little experience writing kernel modules, but I don't understand why the nVidia drivers require their own kernel interfaces.

Default Re: multiple kernels simultaneously without recompiling interfaces

there is a lot of different switches but the one you can use to install several modules is "-K" (big K).

for example:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-1.0-arch-ver.pkgX.run -K -q

limitations:
1) you need to install module for each kernel
2) you may install only one version this way (if upgrading nvidia driver "-K" switch will not work and installer will un-install all older modules)

switch "-q" - quiet
switch "-K" - install a kernel module only, and do not uninstall the existing driver.

I have four kernels each booting to GUI with nvidia 3D.
First kernel does not require -K obviously each subsequent does, if you want to have all kernels with nvidia driver installed.

more info:
at prompt/terminal window
#nvidia-installer -h (basic help)
#nvidia-installer -A (advanced info)

hope this will help.

Try DKMS(dynamic kernel module support), it works like charm for mdv cooker
