Default X shortcut keys disappeared

I'm putting together a media center pc and currently use a TV for display. Because of the relatively poor resolution of TV's, I would often use the ctl-alt-(+) and ctl-alt-(-) shortcut keys to zoom in/out on the display. After recently compiling a new kernel and new nvidia drivers I lost those (and more?) shortcut keys. Can anyone tell me what happened and how to fix it? Thanks

With 1.0-8774, you need to specify the resolutions you'd like to switch between in the appropriate Screen section of you X configuration file. Future NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers will implicitely add modes to the mode pool when only one display device is connected, making this unnecessary.

Hopefully with the option to disable that feature?

@pe1chl: yes, there'll be an option to disable this behaviour.
