Question Tv-out with crt & tv, X crashes

Hi, I'm trying to get my Tv-out to work with my Crt-monitor and my Tv, like everyone else

First: If I use the xorg.conf attached to this post, but with the BusId uncommented - X won't start. Perhaps I've written the wrong Psi-number? I tried lspci and found something like 0000:01:00.0 and I guessed that would be PCI:1:0:0 - but I have no idea really

Second: When it crashes, my Xorg.0.log tells me the "The specified setup is not supported in this configuration". (this is the logpci.txt)

So, I read this thread and changed my crt-1 to Crt-0. This seemed to solve the setup-is-not-supported-problem, but X still won't start (this is the logpciandcrt0.txt). So I commented out the BusID bit, but keeped the new bit about crt-0. X still won't start.

I've got a hunch that this crt-0-buissiness would solve my tv-out prob if only X would start...

the Xorg0log.txt is the log when X starts, but tv-out doesn't work.

Thanks,
Anna

Allright, it all boils down to the following:

Code:
(WW) NVIDIA(1): Option "UseDisplayDevice" requested "TV", but no unused TVs
(WW) NVIDIA(1): are available.
(II) NVIDIA(1): Option "UseDisplayDevice" "TV" converted to "".
(WW) NVIDIA(1): Unable to find any of the requested display device "" in the
(WW) NVIDIA(1): list of available display devices "".
(EE) NVIDIA(1): Unable to find available Display Devices for screen 1.
I searched the web for the same error message but came up with nothing. Any ideas?

According to your bug report, no TV encoder is getting detected on your videocard. That is why you aren't able to drive the TV.

How are you connecting a TV to this videocard?

Does this problem persist with the 1.0-9625 driver?

Thanks,
Lonni

Question Re: Tv-out with crt & tv, X crashes

I'm connecting with a S-Video-cable.

I'm trying to install the beta driver, but installation stops with the error message:
Code:
ERROR: Unable to find the development tool `cc` in your path; please make sure
that you have the package 'gcc' installed. If gcc is installed on your
system, then please check that `cc` is in your PATH.
I have gcc installed and I created a symbolic link ln -s /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/cc, but the error remains.

Cool Re: Tv-out with crt & tv, X crashes

All right, the path problem was somewhat freaky - I had to install gcc-3.4 and then execute the driver .run-file with gcc-4.1. Anyhow, I have the beta driver now, but the tv-out problem remains.

Can you post a bug report against 1.0-9625?

Thanks,
Lonni

X won't start after reboot with the 1.0-9625 driver. Bug report is attached.

I get visual on my Tv if I unplug my monitor when I start my computer, but the Tv goes blank if I try to start x. Anyhow - something is right...

And it is I who should thank you!

I have a few questions:
0) Earlier you stated "I'm connecting with a S-Video-cable", yet your X configuration is specifying composite. Are you using a Composite cable between your TV & videocard (with nothing inbetween) or SVIDEO? Please ensure that your xorg.conf corresponds with what you're using.
1) If you configure Twinview instead of separate X screens, does the TV work if you set ConnectedMonitor to "CRT,TV" ?
2) Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS for the motherboard?

Unhappy Re: Tv-out with crt & tv, X crashes

0) I edited that before my previous bug report
1) Nope. Yet another bug report attached: in short "(WW) NVIDIA(0): TwinView requested, but only 1 display devices found." which doesn't sound too good.
2) I have not idea how to do that And if I run an old BIOS (which I probably do) I don't know how to install a new one. Something tells me that is something one shouldn't take any chances with.

So is this it? If I can't try the BIOS-thing I mean: is my tv-out project doomed to failure?

Thanks,
Anna

You can't run twinview + multiple X screens on a single GPU. Choose one or the other.

I'd still suggest updating your BIOS to the latest version to rule it out/in as a problem.

I tried everything what I can but nothin happened, always the same error message, but the strange thing is that the nvtv can display my screen on the TV but I can't configure different resolution to Monitor and TV so I can't use nvtv too.. So the sign from the TV is reach the computer, but I don't how can I reconfigure my xorg.conf file to verify my TV.

Post Re: Tv-out with crt & tv, X crashes

Update from me, since it was some time I wrote the original message.

I tried all except the BIOS update and finally gave up. One thing I in hindsight can think of is that my graphics card has two ports and only one of them is intact. Now, some graphics card as I understand it only allows TV out on one port.

I.E. My problem could be related to my TV being connected to the wrong hardware port. I have no way of proving this since the other port is broken. One thing to try, therefore, is to put the TV out cable in another port in the graphics card.

Good luck from someone who didn't succeed :P
