Have you applied the patch that fixes I2C bug before you installed the driver ?

sh NVIDIA...blabla.run --extract-only

go to
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9625-pkg2/usr/src/nv

patch -p0 < NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-9625-NOSMBUS.diff.txt

if that fails, fiddle around with p.. like p1 or so

with gentoo it is much easier.. add
epatch NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-9625-NOSMBUS.diff.txt
to the ebuild, copy the patch into the right files dir and do an ebuild
nvidia-drivers-1.0.9625.ebuild digest

but the gentoo ebuild already has the patch, so nothing to do there. yay

no, it is not normal.

Remove all older drivers, before installing a new one.

Especially remove every driver installed by your distribution.

About patching: you installed the new module, after you applied the patch, did you? (the readme in the src-dir tells you how).

The easiest way:

remove all drivers. Check that everything is gone.

Now run sh NVIDIA-*.run

install the driver

then with --extract-only, patch and install the module.

And all that, while X is not(!) running.

YAHOO!!!! WORKS!!!!!!
thanks for the help guys!

it was a "driver disinstallation" problem! I always removed the old driver in the wrong way. Now i've installed my distro (elive) without nvidia driver, so no problem at all.

thanks again.

bye!
