[96.29/x86_64/FC6] screen goes blank from time to time.

Hello all,

I've just upgrade my trusty FC5 to (a fresh install of) FC6.
With the upgrade, I decide to try the latest drivers (96.29) for a bit of AiGLX fun.

Long story short, when I start X, it starts just fine, but every ~10 seconds or so, the screen goes blank, the machine freezes, and everything returns to normal after ~2 seconds.

When I revert back to 87.76, everything goes to normal.
I tried disabling renderaccel, DAMAGE, RENDER, Composite... Nothing seem to help.

HP xw9300.
FC6/x86_64.
2 x Opteron 275.
Quadro FX1400.
4GB PC3200.
SCSI.

I'll attach the nvidia-log once I have time to reinstall the new driver.

96.26 hard locks.
No oops.
No Xid.

Now I'm at home, testing the same driver on my private development (Check sig below) which share the same board as the HP (Tyan Thunder K8WE).
87.76 works just fine.
96.26 hard locks.
96.29 doesn't flicker (I'm using a 21" CRT @home; 17" LCD @work), but works very slowly. (glxgears score dropped from ~14K to ~7K)

I've run FC6 (and FC5) with an FX1400 on an HP xw9300 many times, and never run into the problem you're reporting here. It sounds like its specific to your hardware.

Just to let you know you're not alone Gilboa...
I've not had any screen blanking issues but I have had one hard lock so far using 96.29 on a very similar machine.

The machine had been on for twelve hours, it was an hour into transcoding a dvd when it locked up. No opengl processes running. Maybe 25% load on the system and low temperatures throughout. So I had no reason to suspect the graphics driver. I've just updated to FC6, running a kernel out of testing, everything is new so I'm not too sure where to look for a cause and with only one lock up so far I put it down to one-of-those-things.
glxgears is running at a reasonable 14700 fps here. Probably because I havent tried turning AIGLX on yet...

I'm using a 17" LCD (MAG s776I) on DVI. This is the only non-standard component on my machine. The rest is generic HP stuff.
The machine itself was rock solid under FC5/FC6 with older drivers. Only the 9x.xx seem to exhibit this problem.

Any idea how I can debug this?

Check the kernel log for messages that start with "Xid:".

HP hasn't reported any issues to us with respect to the 1.0-9xxx drivers, which further suggests that whatever is wrong is specific to your hardware. If you have a different display you could temporarily use, that might be a valuable test.

I've switched on AIGLX and dragged a few windows around while running glxgears, no problems whatsoever. No Xid messages either.

Do you see the same problem with older drivers?
Once it happens, can you access the machine over SSH?
Can you connect the machine to a serial cable and check if the kernel spews out error (OOPS) messages?
