Default Samsung X10 Notebook wrong pixel clock for LCD = wrong screen

Hi,

i have here a X10 Notebook from Samsung with a Nvidia GeForce Go 440 64MB buildin graphics adapter and problems with the wrong pixel clock.

By starting the xorg-server with KDE on Kubuntu i get these log informations:

It looks for me, that the driver is tryed to run the internal lcd-display with the configuration for the tv-out (100Mhz, with 800x600 resolution). The lcd-display shows only on the left side a blue/gray-screen, the right one ist black. On the bottom i get a colored line with 2cm width.

I found out, that there was many issuses with nvidia and this notebook in the past and the problem was allready be solved, but currently it doesnt work now. I also tryed the old hints, for example the module options: NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 and NVreg_Mobile=4.

My xorg.conf is shown here: http://rafb.net/paste/results/YXMozH53.html

I tryed the kubuntu-driver over apt-get and the newester nvidia-installer, both with the same result.

Can anyone help here please?

Thanks & regards

Sry, i forgott to describe that, if i connect an external monitor on crt-output the Driver works on the external screen. The internal lcd shows in this conifiguration just a blank view.

I also now tryed the beta driver 9625, but with this one the screen hangs with a small cursor in the left edge. I have to reboot the get a shell back. (doesnŽ t matter if the external crt is connected or not).

The xorg-log says for the 9625 just this

Code:
1  	(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 16, (--) framebuffer bpp 16
2  	(==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 565
3  	(==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
4  	(==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
5  	(**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration

i also have a samsung x10 with same graphics...

everything works fine exept the beta driver. To use beta driver u need to start without acpi! easiest way if u have ubuntu is, to start in recoverymode (grub)

then start manually X (and nvidia) with /etc/init.d/gdm start, turn on acpi and dependencies with /etc/init.d/dbus start and now start ur gnome/kde session

the centrino speedstop stuff seems to be broken with this procedure.

i give u my xorg.conf that works here. Beryl also works!

Thanks for your answers, but it is no option for me the deactivate the speedstep technology and ACPI on this device.

It is possible, that wenn the 9625 becomes stable the nvidia-driver works with acpi on this notebook? So i will wait for this.

Thanks!

This sounds like an ACPI bug (in the kernel or BIOS).

So maybe an bios-update can solve the problem, there are 2 new bios versions avaible for this device.

@camanhere, which bios-version you run?

Hi,

i just want to confirm, that if i disabled the acpi with acpi=off on grub-load the beta-driver works.

IŽ m running the same bios-version, i have not decide yet if i flash the updated bios-file. It can be dangerous.

So this is the reason for my problems, too. I've had very strange results with acpi and twinview.

For now, only the legacy drivers (7xxx) work fine with both acpi and twinview, but I'm really hoping to try out the 9xxx drivers to play with beryl.

Is there a way, to get sure information about the amounts of the graphic memory under linux?

There exist 2 different Bios-Updates for the X10 Notebook, with 32MB and with 64MB.
Unter Linux lspci -v says that is a

0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go 32M] (rev a3) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd: Unknown device c005
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
Memory at b8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=512K]
Expansion ROM at e0080000 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [44] AGP version 2.0

But the windows (omega) driver says it is a 64MB Version.

Ok, i updated the bios to version 09YE, the beta-driver still only works with acpi disabled.

The stable drive also has the same error.

What now?
