I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 (DD) + Dell I8100 laptop with a GeForceGo2 card.
Suspend (SUSPEND-TO-RAM) works with the 8762 (repository) drivers, but hibernate (SUSPEND-TO-DISK) does not. Does anyone know if the new linux 9629 drivers solve this problem? Thanks |

I guess APM was controlling the suspend-to-DISK. |

Option "NvAGP" "1" Option "VBERestore" "True" in you device section of the xorg.conf under the nvidia card. |

I have a sony vaio laptop with GeForce 6200Go card and genuine nvidia drivers installed (gentoo ebuild)
Since the 9629 version, suspend to ram is broken. The computer goes to suspend but when waking up it ends with a black screen and keyboard freeze. Surprisingly, sometimes it is possible to shut down the system with the PWR button. This remembers me the very earlier versions of the drivers that did not support suspend to ram. For now i use the earlier 8776 version which works fine, even suspend to ram. Note : i do suspend to ram via KPowersave (which uses the powersaved daemon) or simply by : echo mem > /sys/power/state Hope this will be fixed. |

@dextermagnific: When you installed the latest drivers, was it from a gentoo ebuild? I believe there was an issue with them using the NVIDIA-*-pkg0.run files, instead of the NVIDIA-*-pkg1.run files. This lead to an incomplete install of some files that the driver relies on. You might want to try installing from the files on the Nvidia site.

The gentoo ebuild based installation of the nvidia drivers is not the issue here.
The difference between NVIDIA*pkg0.run and NVIDIA*pkg1.run is that pkg1 has precompiled kernel modules for different kernels and distros. Both have identical sources for actually building the kernel module. The gentoo ebuild compiles the kernel module from those sources using the smaller download pkg0. The issues with the gentoo ebuild is that it does not currently install nvidia-xconfig or the wfm lib. There are bug reports on those. However they do not affect the suspend capabilties. Suspend-to-ram works for me on two boxes: Case: Antec P150, Antec Aria, Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI (atx), Foxconn NF4K8MC-ERS (matx) Graphics card: 7600GT, 7600GS Kernel: 2.6.18 However, I found suspend-to-ram would not work with a 6600GT in the Aria. For suspend to work have to set the power management options in the bios (S3 for suspend-to-memory). Over the last couple of years I've tried to get suspend working, this is the first time it does. So good news ![]() |

if you have a pcie card, just use vga=791 (or 780) as a kernel switch
i don't have either the agp or the acpi switch and hibernate works. |
