Project Offset might be DX10, considering they aim towards a Holiday 2007 release (IIRC).

This is from: http://halo2pc.org/misc/halo2-pc-faq

If this site is correct, then although you may require vista for Halo 2 - PC, you only need a dx9 card.

This doesn't sound right.

.....Well, on another page they say a dx9 card will run the game. Why would ms insist on vista an not on dx10?
I suspect that Vista will cost the same as an XBOX360 when it's released, so making you also buy a gfx card twice the price of an XBOX would limit their sales somewhat...

:s anyone know yet if you can disable the 3d desktop and has any effect on performance?

Only thing i hear of about DX10 is that it will be much faster and has some nice new features. But then all the reviews i read of vistaRC versions show that games indeed get a performance slap of 10-25% (off course dx9)

is it possible to do instancing with different variables? like characters (instanced) that have different hairstyles, height, weight and stuff like that on the fly?

im sure they could do instancing+shaders for colour, but also for geometry?

I'm pretty sure this is one of the points for the new geometry shader.

You can do geometry instancing+variables, without much of a performance hit.

@jakup - hey thats awesome - ive heard of them using different models in warhammer MoC, but i just assumed they were using different models. (i still am)

if they can put proper random instancing, a game like that becomes better x10 - would also make games like fear a lot cooler when every firefight has characters with loads of different gadgets that actually have a purpose and stuff.

cool

Talk is cheap though. There has yet to be one single public demonstration of anything running on DX10. Developers also have an unfortunate habit of over-promissing and under-delivering when it comes to technologies that haven't been released yet.

Previous to the release of WinXP 64-bit, I remember plenty of developers talking about how the 64-bit version of their game would be so much better than the 32-bit version. What came out of all that hoopla? A patch for FarCry, about a year after the game was released, that could be enabled for the 32-bit version via a hack and still ran fine.

I'm not saying there's not chance the games won't be better on DX10, but I wouldn't be so quick to take the game developers on their word - especially when it's highly likely there are other motives involved (such as backing by MS in order to promote the new OS).

Wow, these games are looking realy great!!! But i want to know, is my system poweful enough to run them at full speed? I have: AMD ATHLONX2 4400+DUAL CORE 2.2GHZ, 1GB DDR 400, GEFORCE 7900 GT 256 MB. Can i run these games without upgrading my pc? What pc do i need to run these games? And does Directx 10 games have better grafics than the ps3 and xbox360 games?
