here's a few pics of st.maarten, st.barts. i dunno if the screenshots do it any justice but i guess after looking at the detail of the aiports then the rest of the island is not as good but i don't remember much of the default. i guess i can disable it and give the default a try to compare. these screens are all maxed out....everything except light bloom. since this is mainly ocean around it's pretty easy to max it out. i had to resize these from 1600x1200 cause they were over 300kb.

I guess I'm the first the try out the new trees. I did pics in the UK over my favorite default textures, and also in the Vancouver+ scenery area.

This tree package might be one of my favorite add ons yet. For one thing the trees look awesome, and it also upgrades nearly the entire sim. If there is a performance hit using the 1024 trees over the default 512 size I didn't notice it. I was in the 30's over the UK scenery, which is using extremely dense autogen. I have to use lower settings in the Vacouver+ mountains. I'm even using 8xS supersampling at 1600x1200 and 32bit textures on the Spitfire, and the 1024x1024 trees seemed to do fine.

Some of these trees have a bit of a scrawny appearance when compared to the defaults since they are more detailed and modeled differently, which can make the autogen look less full, but using the 512 resolution might help a little with that.

Overall this package seems to be a keeper and if you are drawn to the art style it might even be a must have. I'm certainly glad I decided to shell out the cash for it, as its that good. It steps up the whole sim. Now the whole of FSX has trees the caliber of FTX, though not rescaled and of higher resolution.

Thanks. No problem in shrinking them down, I'm not a fan of screenshots over 1024 anyway.

Here's what the default island looks like. It pretty much has an autogen object for every object on the texture, which is the way to do it. It beleive the default is at 1m but it might be higher. Certainly the airports have more detail in the add on but the default island is hard to beat.

Dear Silly ....could you please provide some close-up shots of those trees. I'm very interested, and wonder how they compare to the re-textured default [TreeX] ones I'm using.

They certainly look good in the SimMarket shots, but some nice close shots from you would help my desicion to spash-the-cash, or not.

Also, have you noticed any issues with FTX's trees using these?

Thanks in advance.

My mate tells me SP2 is out. Is that true and if so, is it OK?

Yes, it's been out for a long while, and as far as I'm concerned it's fine, and has only offered improved performance, and faster terrain loading. There are some downsides, like some issues with FS9 ported aircraft, the better developers are providing updates for these. The DX10 preview is a bit of a disappointment for most it seems, with only a very minor visual improvement - and it brings some issues of it's own.

Works fine with FTX since FTX has its own tree trextures, though make sure you turn FTX mode off before installing. I forgot and the textures were over written by the new ones, so I had to reinstall FTX.

Thank you for the shots Silly - I think you have convinced me, as they do look stunning even at close range, and certainly better overall than the TreeX retextured trees I have currently.

With current exchange rates they come out at 11.50 GBP which is not too bad.

Cheers.
