Thanks pentax! This reminds me of long discussions in the racing sim community and I see the differences between (racing and flight) sims and RL are basically the same. I still enjoy sims, even if they only grap 1% of the real thing, I will never be a pilot and it is a lot of fun to just imagine and fly and realize how tough and busy the work in the ****pit actually can be (for a non-professional).

Regarding your previous question, nope FSX doesnīt support physics accelerators, it doesnīt even take full advantage of dual-core CPUs. We might have to wait for FS10 or FS11 until we see proper support for this tech.

I am looking forward to the DX10 patch for FSX/Vista and hope it will make a difference but honestly I donīt know if a single 8800GTX will be able to run FSX at 1920x1080 resolution at playable framerates. Itīs possible but the GTX is already quite a CPU hungry card, and when you add a CPU hungry sim like FSX to it, I donīt think it will be able to render anythign like 60fps. I personally would be happy with 30fps at 1080p but I guess we have to wait for reviews and tests and see what framerates the 8800GTX will be able to deliver in FSX.

So As I mentioned earlier I un-installed FSX just because I am going to wait until I upgrade and then try to run it later.

I got bored and decided to install FS2000. Wow, it ran so fast and even though the graphics weren't nearly as good as FSX I enjoyed it just because it ran fast. Haha, just thought I would share this. Anyone who is sick of FSX running slow as hell, go for FS2000 or even FS2004 again until a later time.

Ha, I was going to install FS2000 the other day just for kicks and to compare it to FSX. But I didn't...maybe I will now...

EDIT: I just remembered when I first installed FS2000 back when I got it on our 240MHZ POS (I think it was a winChips or some knockoff brand of intel....). It ran like crap and took a good 10 minutes to load the game. Good times.

I loved it just because I can run everything at max (It still looks horrible, although ngihttime airport runways look nice, ecspecially O'Hare)and it is super fast. No waiting whatsoever.

New York - Statue of Liberty

New York - Empire State Building

New York - Central Park - UltraHigh settings

New York - Central Park - All sliders maxed out

Frankfurt - Stepping on the brakes, making the passengers puke

My home town/location in FSX...

... all sliders maxed out in a Bell...

...and the location in RL

The 8800s didn't help me much, if at all. With everything set to max in game, running at 1920x1200 4xAA/16xAF, I pretty much got 11 fps with quad-sli and I'm pretty much at 11 fps with 8800 SLI.

Yes most of the time I was in the 20s in New York but at least its playable, or controllable, even with all sliders maxed out (FSX is using 1.2GB memory there). I did see a nice gain when I disabled traffic AI. I do think that DX10 might help rendering the auto-gen stuff and free up some CPU resources, which overall should help to increase the framerate.

Another interesting thing were the CPU graphs in the taskmanager. CPU1 was between 90% and 100% (graph looked like a saw) and CPU2 was around 5% and 10% (again, graph looked like a saw). I set the max framerate to 30fps. How much did you set it to?

While Iīm still not fully happy with the framerate of FSX, its looks so much better and is more fun to play it on my new one.
