GF 2xx cards slower than an 18 month old 8800GTX in FSX

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...0,1953-15.html

Ouch.....myself i was waitting on ATI's 48xx cards anyhow as GF2XX cards Nv seem way over priced also im totally sick of Nv's ****ty/hap hazard driver release's,i know ATI have been slower in FSX the past gen/refreshes but i hold out some kind of hope
the 48xx will give a nice boost roll on the 25th

I wonder which F-16 they have there? Looks pretty sweet.

Also, great shots everybody!

hmmm that doesn't look good.......i am planning on getting a new gtx280 soon. i don't see how that can work unless it's drivers but how are "better" drivers gonna bring it up 20fps.

Even when CPU bound ATI cards have always showed poorer FSX performance than Nvidia cards. Thats why I've never considered ATI as an option for FSX. Even the 3870 is 25% slower than the 8800.

In this chart performance goes up when AA and AF is enabled, so you know there's no GPU bottleneck involved. I don't understand how a GPU can make such a difference in a CPU bound app other than drivers, but you would think ATI would have their drivers matured by this point. In any case it's pretty rare to see a driver update close a 25% delta.

What drivers are you guys using. The only driver set that's worked well for me in FSX have been the 169.44s but they're just so old and every other games performs better with newer drivers. With the 175.15s I get horrible stuttering in FSX.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give it a try. I went back to the 169.44s. Changing drivers is such a pain in the butt. I hate doing it.

i also had horrible stuttering with the 175.16s in fsx but all my other games work great.......weird.....i wonder if it has something to do with the "frame render ahead thing".

any of the 160 series drivers work excellent. when in windowed mode with 175.16 the stuttering isn't to bad but when in full screen mode it's hardly playable. i switched back to 169.21 and works perfect. frustrating. i also tried 174.74 and no success. i tried also forcing v-sync off to see if that was the problem in full screen mode but no success.

i don't see 175.12 on nvidia but then I'm on xp for now....ill be doing the vista64 thing soon again and see what happens.

Looking forward slaWter too seeing you get your new vga soon. i'm going back and forth with it now. i will probably cave and buy one soon. LOL.

I'm still using 169.09, specifically for FSX. I was not able to get nHancer working ith any of the 170 series, but I have not tried recently either.

There's something in the drivers newer than the 169s that breaks FSX even though just about every other game I have gets a boost in either IQ or performance. It's really annoying. It sort of makes me want to get rid of FSX.
