Wow excellent SoCal shots!

Mega scenery earth seems like a flop, certainly not the most revolutionary product since flight sim its self, as they were hyping it to be. I get a kick out of all the drama in the flight sim world. Dean from FSDreamscapes was making a scene at Avsim saying MSE stole his business model and such, but I'm sure he's not pleased as there are now two devs planning to cover the US in photoscenery. MSE is a scam if you ask me as some of the source data is horrible 2m satellite stuff, not the nice arial photo's like SoCal and Oahu, and it costs much more than Dean's stuff. Seems dean is doing proper water masks in time rather than using data like MSE does. He shows some shots where the MSE water mask data covers up huge area of land, obscuring lots.

I might have to go i7 sooner than later as my system is acting up. Every couple of time I try to cold boot it wont go, giving either a solid post beep or a rapid fire post beep that doesn't stop. I have to reboot over and over before it will come on. Might be bad memory.

I really should get a huge performance leap from i7. For one thing the 6MB cache Core 2 have a 10% edge over the 4MB models like mine, and the 25-30% clock per clock gain of i7 is against a 6MB model. So to figure a comparison to mine: a 6MB Core2 at 3GHz will have performance similar to my chip at 3.3GHz, and since I should get i7 to 4Ghz I can take my projected 3.3Ghz performance up by another 33% to get 4.3Ghz, and finally I'll add in the 25% for the i7's clock per clock gain for a total of 5.4Ghz. So that means a 4Ghz i7 should perform similar to a 5.4Ghz Core 2 4MB chip.

If I already had a 6MB quad running at 4Ghz like some of you i7 wouldn't be a worthy investment, as I'd only gain 25% or so, but at least in theory I stand to gain nearly 80%, though I'm sure in reality I won't see that much. In addition to this I'm switching to Vista 64, so I'll have the option of DX10, and from what you guys have said DX10's performance is superior. In any case I'm thinking a 4Ghz i7 with DX10 should be a night and day difference for me. Only problem is I want to get my Canon 40D on order, and that's about $1000, and I'll need close to that for for the new build being the damn boards are $300.

Do it with FTX mode ON, and once installed to an FTX mode OFF. If you have VancouverX or UTX installed, you will need to re-run their configurators once you have done an FTX Mode [OFF] to ensure their custom terrain.cfg entries are restored. Same goes for SceneryTech landclass lclookup.bgl if you're using that.

If you don't have acceleration there's a different file to run.

This freeware Chinook is pretty good, if you're into freeware. It's an FSX model at least, and has 10 liveries or so from around the world.

Nice shots guys. I was just thinking of putting FSX in a separate dedicated HDD. Would this benefit the performance at all as oppose to having it on the same drive as the OS?

Hey, where's everybody?
Here are some Huges shots over Oahu DX9, 1920 x 1200 resized + sharpened
I still don't like flying it, but it's a great model even if it looks like a Huges-flying-phallus.

its about the longest i've ever spent on a repaint just rebuilding the normal map took me about twice aslong as the VH-AIF repaint but its worth it,Its been very nice to start with a blank canvas and not have to make my details fit other ppls normal maps infact in this case other ppl are haveing to fit there repaints around my work which is kind strange

I'll post some more shots as work progresses but its still a WIP atm

Cheers
