So many options in REX. Can some of you please share you favorite REX theme settings? Mainly cloud settings?
Try Cumulus 49 and Cirrus 21, or even Cumulus 54. I like to fly using Orbx weather theme 1 or 3 selected in game.

O wow I didn't even see the Cirrus settings, another 22 choices. REX is pretty amazing. Installing Cumulus 54 and Cirrus 21 now. Thanks Sillyeagle!

Steve, yeah great tweaking your profile is perfect for the REX normals.

Edit:
Perfect! Thanks guys.

Bought REX just yesterday myself. Haven't looked at it just yet. After the download & unpacking it was getting too late so after the defrag's finished it's time to fly. Will try those combination first sillyeagle then go from there. I see on their site that REX 2 is entering beta as well. Looking forward to that. One more thing, where did the downloader put the main EXE file I need to back up or do we have to redownload the whole 4gigs again in the event of a reinstallation like after a reformat.

I can't get over how awesome this thing is. I was studying the engine sound tonight and I have to say it's the most well done I've ever heard, right there with the A2A P-40. When I move around the aircraft I hear exactly what I would expect to hear from a given position, and I don't think that can't be said for anything else in my collection other than the P-40. I like finding those sweet spots where the exhaust note was caught just right, then running the engine through the range. One of the coolest parts to me is the way the engine sounds are linked directly with the effects, so every bump, burp and backfire has just the right pop, poof or billow of smoke. Listening to is just as much fun as looking at it. It's hard to pull my self away actually. lol

I just stumbled upon an awesome fix for the Acceleration F/A-18 afterburner effects....

Download

Quote:
Microsoft's original Acceleration Pack F18 Hornet has several known bugs in the Afterburner effects:

1) false Navigation and landing lights appearing in and around the afterburners,
2) exhaust textures that spill-out beyond the sides of the exhausts,
3) poorly designed and incorrectly placed attach points in the model for some of the flame effects.
4) a poor implementation of the afterburner smoke trail.

This one here is a mod at avsim with three new textures to choose from for the HUD glass.

There's a couple fixes here, including a speed break fix to stop the nose from rising, and a wheel break fix.

Some new contact points for the Airctaft.cfg to make it sit level with the ground while still working with carrier ops and crash detect on.

and

static_cg_height = 7.00

And finally the unofficial Acceleration F/A-18 forum at FSDreamteam(Makers of the VC).

Hi Silly,
The screen shots you posted are absolutely breathtaking. Can I have a quick minute of your time and ask you a question. How are you able to achieve these levels of IQ with your current setup. I see that you have a GTX 260, I have a GTX 285 and currently my FSX is all messed up. The textures are always jumping when I am on the runway and the overall IQ suffers quite a bit due to heavy shimmering. I am not new at this, I have been playing FS since Bruce Artwick's original FS all the way up to FSX. But I recently gave up after I was unable to fix the IQ issue. It seems that the issue is with using DX10 across all nvidia cards. But it seems that you have somehow been able to overcome it.
The addons that I have currently installed for FSX are REX and UTX USA,Europe and Canada.

Can you please share some of the settings with us and advise on how to achieve this level of IQ. Also where did you get the plane from? Is it available online.

My current specs are as follows
Q6600 OC 3.2 Ghz
BFG GTX 285
4 GIG RAM
Vista 64 Ultimate.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Wildcard. The P-47 is from A2A Simulations. They have both the aircraft package, and then the accu-sim package that includes realistic engine behavior if exceeding engine parameters.

http://www.a2asimulations.com/

You mentioned you're using DX10, and that might be the issue. All of my screens are with DX9, and if I use DX10 I get strange anomolies, especially when on runways.

I've always used Supersample AA via nHancer and 16x AF and have never seen any shimmers, though I've heard other report shimmers. 8xS or 8xSQ works well in nHnacer.

As far as settings add these to your fsx.cfg and set your in game autogen to very dense. I had good results with these settings when I had m7 Q6600 @ 3.0GHz.

[DISPLAY]
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1700

[SCENERY]
SmallPartRejectRadius=3

[JOBSCHEDULER]
AffinityMask=14

[BUFFERPOOLS]
PoolSize=70000000

Hi Silly,
Thanks for the quick reply and the info. Yeah it was DX10, once I disabled it the IQ issues went away. Set up nHancer with the settings you suggested and the everything looks fantastic! The only problem is that with DX10 enabled I was getting much better FPS, after disabling it I'm averaging out around 10 - 15 FPS near airports and hitting somewhere in the mid 20's or a little bit higher everywhere else.

How is the i7 with FSX. Do you see a noticeable improvement when you moved from Q6600 to the i7. Perhaps its time for an upgrade :-)
