I use core temp and that was my highest temp (on core 0) after about 15 of stress testing. I think I put too much thermal paste on the cooler. I'm a noob so, no surprise. What is the best way to get the old thermal paste off?

Do you use the Noctua NH-U12P Cooler??

I'm completely new to OC'ing so take that into mind when your talking to me lol.

Yeah that's the same cooler I use. I just use rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to take paste off, but they do make a special cleaner. I keep cleaning until rubbing with a dry paper towel no longer leaves any color on the towel.

OK guys, I couldn't resistthe temptation, I jumped on the Core i7 boat.
So, my system will look like that now:
CPU: Core i7 920 (D0 Stepping)
CPU-Cooler Noctua NH-U12P SE 1366(I'm thinking of replacing the fans with my two XSilence (same noise at more than double Airflow)
Mainboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme (damn, they didn't have the Rampage Gene and also the Gigybyte-X58-Extreme wich are more cheaper and not a bit worse)
RAM: OCZ PC3-16000 Blade Series Low Voltage Triple Channel (CL 7-8-7-20 on 2000Mhz!)
The Rest hasn't changed, remains as in my signature
Well, I hope it will rock before it explodes, I have the 4,2 Ghz as target.
AndI really wouldn't mind some hints from you, experienced Core i7 user, since this is a new Architechture, and of course a new Bios for me, surely I'll clamp my ears in it today.
I'll put it together today (I'll post a shot when I'm done),...
...but because this is the FSX forum, let me say: "I'll put it together today and can't wait to fire up FSX!"

Guys, I know I'm in the wrong thread, I need some help here!
I'm running stable 4.2Ghz@1.35v with 30C with 7-7-7-16-1T RAM timings@1.65v.
But the RAM is running 1600Mhz! This new bios is making me crazy, I really don't get it how to put the RAM at 1800 or 2000Mhz.
Sorry, this is the FSX thread. I'm installing right now FSX and I'm really looking forward to see the Changes

How this game works with dual GPU cards? Anyone with GTX 295?

Too my understanding it does not support dual video cards. A GTX-295 will probably be no better than a GTX-280 or even a 260. My GTX-285 hardly even heats up when playing FSX. You need the fastest dual core or quad core available to get the most out of FSX. I have a I-7 920 @ 3.3GHz right now and I still cant turn up the settings all the way. On my system FSX only uses one thread of one core on the CPU.

My RAM is running at 1600MHz as well, which is pretty standard for a 4.2GHz i7 with Turbo enabled, but if you want it to go faster you should be able to up the multiplier in the BIOS. It's not going to make any difference though being that 1600 triple channel at CL7 is aleady way more bandwidth than what is needed.

FSX is bottlenecked on the CPU unless you force supersampling via nHancer, and I have never heard anybody report if SLI helps when forcing a GPU bottleneck with supersampling. There's a common myth floating around that FSX does not work with SLI, and perhaps its not a myth, but I have never seen any proof either way.

I don't have two cards so can't test my self, but all that would be needed to test is to set 4x4 supersampling to ensure a major GPU bottleneck, and then test with one card then two.

Well the idea is that since FSX has so much GPU headroom enabling supersampling is an effective way to utilize that otherwise unused power, being that it takes a large amount of GPU power to even be able to run supersampling. The reason supersample AA is recommended for FSX over the ussual multisample and coverage sample methods available in the driver is that not all textures are antialiased with those modes, and supersampling does in fact antialiase all textures since it renders the scene at twice the resolution in the frame buffer, then downsamples and applies multisample AA to the output image.

This first image shows 16xAA selected via the Nvidia control panel, which is technically coverage sample AA, a form a mutlisampling. The second image shows what 4x4 supersampling looks like, which is really not usable since at 1600x1200 is would be rendering at 6400x3200 internally, and even with something light on the GPU like FSX that kinds of resolution is a bit too high. Look awesome, runs poor. The final image shows 8xS supersampling, wich is 1x2 supersample with 4x multisampling, so it renders internally at 1600x2400, then downsamples and applied 4x multisample AA. Using the combined modes like 8xS and 8xSQ are the way to go. While these images are a bit old the newer nHancer has 8xSQ, which is 2x2 supersampling with 2x multi, and it is the prefered and recommended setting for FSX when you have an 8800GTX series or better.

NOTE: some people have commented it looks bad with any of these modes, but keep in mind I took this screen shot at an angle that made the jaggies look as bad as was possible, so in game 8xSQ looks totally jaggy free. Once thing is for sure though, supersampling is far superior, and that's why it incurs such a performance hit.
