Isn't this supposed to be a realistic sim? I have noticed that the planes are slower than they should be...much slower. For example; the cruising speed of a 747 is something like 585 mph, yet I can only get a KIAS airspeed of just over 330mph in the sky. WTF? Shouldn't I be going MUCH faster than this? I noticed the same problem even with the F-18, it should be able to hit a top speed of 1,190mph, yet I can barely get it over 700mph. Am I doing something wrong? I tried looking this up online but there was away too much over-information to figure it out accurately.

Either I am forgetting a key step, or it is some sort of bug. Any help would be appreciated.
You need to remember that:
  1. KIAS is knots indicated airspeed, which varies with altitude, pressure, etc.
  2. Knots are nautical miles per hour, so 1 kn = 1.151 mph.
See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indicated_airspeed
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_airspeed

I've found this example for calculating TAS (true airspeed) from IAS:

TAS = IAS + IAS x (2% per) 1000'
If IAS is 250 and altitude is FL 200 (20,000 ft)
TAS = 250 + 250 x (.02 x 20)
= 250 + 250 x .4
= 250 + 100 KIAS = 350

So, pressure and weather conditions aside, at 20,000 ft, 330 KIAS = 462 KTAS.

The cruising speed of a 747-400 is 567 mph or 493 kn at 35,000 ft.

So, if you see a speed of 330 KIAS:

@35,000 ft, TAS = 330 x 1.7 = 561 kt = 645 mph
@20,000 ft, TAS = 330 x 1.4 = 462 kt = 531 mph

I hope that helps

Hey guys,

I've been gone for a long time mostly due to school. The last three months I spent in Florida for flight training at New Smyrna Beach. It's been a great experience and all in all I managed to add 75 hours to my logbooks.

So now that I've returned and have FSX up and running again I figured it was time for a nice screenshot with the YF-23. Clouds in the background are from a real photo.

Click here for 1920x1080 version.

I hope you enjoy it.

Here's an interesting interview with Mathijs Kok from Aerosoft.

http://www.fsbreak.net/podcast/25

He says the German FS market is bigger than all of the US market. I know NuBee has mentioned German stores stocking FS stuff, and that is not the case here. The only thing found in stores here is FSX and X-plane, no add ons. He also indicates the FSX market will slow down at the end of next year, and that M$ has told retailers they are done with FS so the retailers no longer want to stock his boxed items.

Also says the Aerosoft Catalina or F-16 require an investment of $35,000 to $40,000 to develope, and that 5% of Aerosofts download sales comes from pirates who they have forced to buy ten Aerosoft products or else they will post their personal details online. lol

One more interesting item is that he's listed in the US homeland security database as being somebody associated with making images of airports, so he has a lot of trouble getting through security when he comes to the US. lol

Other than different paint, is there any difference to these aircraft?

Thank You

Well its not just a diffrent Paint job

We totally remade the exterior normal and spec maps as well a 6 new HD schemes,95% of the VC texturing has also been replaced and the flight model has been totally remodel'ed giving the goose haddling more more inline with the real aircraft,the new flight model also comes in 2 diffrent variety's a standard and high performance versions again both modeled on real life mods made to the standard goose,you can feel the diffrence between the flight models by switching between the standard aces schemes and the Ozx HD schemes as we left the standard aces paints using the default FM so ppl could feel the difference in how all 3 flight models differ

Check the inc PDF for more info on what was done

Someone on the official support forum had the same issue. He fixed it by re-installing his OS and FSX. I don't want to do that tbh

I have both scenery entries at the top of my list, in the correct order. Other areas are not affected. So FTX still works nicely.

Is there an easy fix for this? Thanks.
Tried re-installing Tongass, enabling/disabling FTX and disabling the water textures in the Tongass config tool. Nothing worked so far.
Do you have UTX? Try going into UTX and running the config tool so that can correct it's own entries. Usually if I have land where there should be water that works, though I've never encountered it with TFX.

Another thing I have used to help these things is this:

http://fullterrain.com/hotfixes/FTXA...TORE_ACCEL.zip

Run this installer while FTX mode is ON to restore your FSX-Acceleration FTX backup files, then do an FTX mode OFF. Then run the UTX config tool, and finally reinstall Tongass.
