Never noticed a difference with different drivers... Somebody said the new 150 series drivers offload some work from the CPU, but I didn't notice that.

I installed SP1 and got up to a 100% increase in some cases!

I loaded a flight on the runway at Meigs in Chicago, and did before and after comparisons.

Before SP1: 16-23fps

After SP1: 31-36fps

Thats a 95% increase on the minimum value. I also loaded a flight over the UK.

Before SP1: 23-25fps

After SP1: 40-47fps

Thats an 75% increase on the minimum value. This is certainly the best patch I have ever seen for a game.

Yep I too can confirm all the above, a totally amazing update. The best thing for me is the lack of stutters and pauses - even over the biggest citys I can fling the veiwpoint arround, with not a hickup.

I also can confirm no issues with addon scenery, my uk VFR works even better.

glad to see this is finally out. Must try when I get home. This is how a patch should be released. By far, it sounds like, the best patch ever for a game.

FSX sp1 FTW!!!

Do you still have those modifications in the config file or you installed SP1 on a clean FSX?

Supposedly you can have cfg tweaks and it will work fine, its just modified dlls and textures that can cause an issue. Although they say the cfg tweaks from before are no longer useful after SP1. If you deleted the cfg FSX will build a new one.

Here's more info from the devs:

Quote:
FSX SP1:Preparing to Install

Setting up for SP1

SP1 needs a pristine RTM.

That includes no add-ons. Many 3rd party add-ons can cause crashes, especially if they load dlls. In that case they will likely need to be refreshed.

If you really don’t want to do this, then perhaps you can consider running FSX from the command line using

>fsx /ManualLoad

This provides a dialog for every dll or xml exe that gets loaded so you track down who is the offender if there is an issue.

However, most people don’t know how to run FSX from the command line, thus it’s safest to uninstall all add-ons.

If you have performed any file modification tweaks, you will need to uninstall or repair RTM.

Then install SP1.

Then start installing your add-ons 1 by 1.

Note:

Uninstalling RTM deletes ALL content of -
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX

That is EVERY subfolder & file in that branch.

If you don't back up and save, you will loose config files, flights, logbook, and rewards.
Two files to consider saving:
Logbook.bin &
GrantedRewards.bin

FSInsider.com will have an article live that discusses the uninstall scenario in more depth, please take the time to read it.

Hey guys, what are your best Red Bull air race times? Since FSX is running a lot smoother I finally was able to complete this challenge in 2:39 (one 5 seconds penalty included).

I'm back... and ready to call it quits. I absolutely must have FSX run at 1920x1080@60Hz in order for my projector to detect the input. I have just blown about $1500 upgrading my motherboard, CPU, graphics card, and memory only to be greeted with the SAME maximum available resolution of 1280x1024 in FSX... I currently have EVGA nForce 680i SLI motherboard, 2 Gig Corsair DDR2 800Mhz memory, Intel Core duo 6700 CPU 2.67 Ghz, EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB video card. It runs everything else at 1920x1080 with options to go even higher. Someone please tell me what I'm missing... I've spent far too much time and money on this to end up with the same problem I already had.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

P.S... Someone mentioned editing a some kind of config line... any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Try posting about this at Avsim.com. Thats where I got the initial answer for you. One guy there does in fact run at the resolution you have specified. The developers hang out at that forum, so thats the best place to ask.

The devs are busy right now though, due to the issues that are being seen with SP1, so I doubt they will respond personally, but there are many knowledgeable people there.

Hmm, I havn't tried any of the missions yet. What mission is that, I don't recall seeing it.

I'll give it a shot and see what I can do.

Thanks sillyeagle, I'll give that a try. I was just informed by Microsoft that FSX supports a max resolution of 1280x1024... Could be why that is the highest available in the settings. lol. Maybe I can find how the other person runs at higher resolutions.

Thanks

Dude, thats BS. I always run at 1600x1200, and many guys run way above that. Was it the MS support phone number that told you that?

Its the last two in the list. THe first is slightly easier because they blend in arrows which way you have to fly the course, and thats the one where I have flown the 2:39 but after a few tries you wont even need the arrows anymore.

I never played FSX in MP, can you fly with buddies around or even participate together in air races? That would be the bomb! Racing and flying is the best of both worlds.
