You guys are all talking about getting G80 to run this, but isn't it CPU bound? I recall dropping FSAA and Res in the demo and getting the same frame rate...

I was under the impression I needed the claimed 30% performance boost from DX10/Vista and the 30% or so boost from a dual core upgrade in order to play this acceptably at high settings.

FSX , as was FS9, is CPU limited. you can buy a G80 , it will not give you anything but ultra high res + AA + HDR capability.

all the rest (AI traffic, ground mesh , shadow etc ) will still be CPU hunger.
i would like to see a C2D VS A64 bench is this game .

Most flight-sims are cpu-bound.

i achieved an decent perfs with decent settings. AI traffic was , of course, set to ZERO. it's a cpu BLACK HOLE

so i achieved 16-22 fps in France/nice airport , on taxiway.
(1600 FSAA 2X aniso, bloom, mesh 80%, scene normal, autogen custom (mini),global texture size nearly maxed ans fps target to 24

I would really like to see single vs dual core benchmarks, which should be something I can do when I upgrade to a x2 4800.

Hmmm, I found these comments here....

http://jonpatch.wordpress.com/2006/1...u-buy-fsx-now/

Quote:
Dual-core: the bottom line here is that due to the threading constraints of the application (ie most of the effort is spent updating the display in a single thread) I do not see much above 60-65% total CPU usage, and I found itís often closer to 50%. So on average, a second core does not show a huge performance increase. Although technically it can be said FSX is a dual-core application, itís much closer to a single-core app on the continuum.

SLI: FSX does not support multi-GPU SLI.

Ya, as far as my system goes, it runs very well with general display (aircraft textures) and water textures turned up all the way. I don't even go near land detail..not only does it take forever to load but my system can't handle it.

As some of the other guys said in here, I am also curious in seeing some sort of benchmark between the A64's and the Core2 chips.
