Does anyone here like the MegaScenery addons... I was looking at this one....

http://www.megascenery.com/megasceneryxsocal.htm

Southern California.

It's $39.99 and wanted some feedback first.

Thanks.

No. GPU limited.

No, I'm not. There's a test of QX6850 vs QX9650, dual core vs quad core in FSX. The difference is marginal. I'll dig out the article for you.

Here you go, QX9650 @ 3.6 Vs itself @ stock and Q6850, the difference is less than 1 FPS:

The oddest result is the Flight Sim X result, which was identical across all CPUs. Note that we did install the Flight Sim X service pack, so we expected some variation—but got none. While we did run at 1280x1024, anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering were not enabled, and the rest of the settings were set to medium-high. So we should have seen some difference in the results, but none were evident.

Yeah I've seen that before, and its a mystery as to how they got those results. FSX performance is almost entirely CPU dependant, as was FS9, and every other flight sim.

FSX scales perfectly with CPU clock speed, and if you look at Toms VGA chart you will see on an 8800 he gets the same FPS at 1024 w/no AA as he does at 1920 w/AA.

i went from a stock e6850 to a qx9650 and its an awesome increase of performance for me............i don't think fsx can be measure by frame rates alone........my frame rates didn't double going to a quad. but i can turn up my autogen.........and use water at full and my stutters went down big time.......at 1600x1200.........i can also enable lightbloom at certain places were before it would just crap out before.

when i run everest and i'm flying thru dense cities it shows core 1,2,3 at 100percent and core 4 jumping between 60 and 100.........i have a g15 and it shows video memory averaging 350mb usage. this games is major cpu intensive. once i start overclocking it will be even better.........i don't think its major gpu. crysis is major gpu.......my everst shows crysis using 700+mb of gpu memory........i know that measurement isn't everything but if your a flight simmer i would invest in a good cpu first..( if your a flight sim enthusiast that is)

i also run add ons ulitmate terrain x and canada and also vancouver+ addon.

this is only my experience but quad is awesome for fsx for me so far. to bad service pack 2 added more stutters again for me compared to sp1.

The extra cache on the new chips is good for another 10% frame rate boost, but you get little to no frame rate gain from the additional two cores, as pretty much all the multithreading enhancements were done only to the terrain loading engine.

In addition some extensive benchmarking was done over at avsim, and it was noted that a 50% CPU overclock translates to a 34% performance gain, which is an efficiency factor of 68%, on both XP and Vista.

But yeah, the CPU is where you want to invest your money for FSX. Any GPU faster than a 7800GTX will easily do 1920x1600 w/AA and not see a performance hit, even on the fastest CPU. Toms chart shows a 2fps difference on the 7800GTX going from 1024 noAA to 1920 w/AA.

Well, I got the QX9650, I just need to make the decision as to what board to get, Intel vs nVidia. I play other games, not just flight sims, so dual card set up is important for me.

I went nvidia just to keep the option open, but by the time I would be ready to add a second GTX, it might make more sense to get something else, but who knows.
