I got it as a download. This is the base pack and then there is an autogen pack to go with it, though its already got autogen for a couple of the bigger valleys.
It only uses 2.5m textures though, which is pretty low res for my tastes. I had to zoom out all the way to make it look that good. So I enjoy using it at .3 to .5 zoom, but normal zoom levels like .7 or .8 dont look too good for my type of flying.

OK thanks for that - the 2.5m resolution is a bit of a turn-off for me too. I think it would have to be quite cheap for me to invest...and full autogen would help to hide the lack of ground detail, something I'm happy to do without with decent photoscenery.

Wow! I dl'd the beta DR a few weeks ago, but man. They really kicked ass on the final release.
A virtual ****pit just makes the aircraft for me since I mostly fly virtual ****pits with trackir. I wonder if they have a paypal link, I'd give em a few bucks for gratitude. I must say, in a world where FSX is (imo) looked upon as a cash cow by most of it's addon community, these guys have alot of class releasing this as freeware. And Silly, or other C-130X owners, Captain Sim has announced that the service pack is almost ready. In addition they have decided to move the EICAS into the base pack so we'll all have glass ****pit's very soon. I'm not sure if I'll use it, I kind of like the caveman guages. Sweet news anyway. |

Gorgeous screens guys. I'm in search of something other than the standard-faire FPS and RTS, so I think you've all just convinced me to pick FSX up.
Without searching through this entire thread, can you all recommend some "must have" addons for the game?

A lot of people like the enviornment add ons which give different cloud, sky and water textures, but I like the defaults my self. The SF-260 by RealAir Simulations is widely regarded as the best general aviation add on you can buy, so that might be a place to start. Not only does it have excellent models, sounds, and textures, but it has what is widely know as the most accurate flight model of any add on. I also really like the P-40 by Shockwave productions, which is the currently the best WWII warbird you can get. The Dr.I freeware seen in the last few posts is the best WWI aircraft you can get, payware or freeware.

My three 'can't do without' add-ons are.
1.Flight EnviromentX - which replaces default cloud, sky and water textures and animations. It transforms the atmospheric environment. 2.Horizon Simulations GenerationX Eng and Wales Photosceney - highly detailed 1m phototextures and 5m mesh 3.Aerosoft Beaver - great all purpose GA aircraft. As Silly says it really depends on what you want to do and get out of the sim - everyone's going to be different. All three in action. ![]() |

I like FSgenesis mesh, Ground environment X, Ultimate terrain X, X-Graphics, My Traffic-X, Xclass land class, and FSdiscover.
X-Graphics includes new textures for roads, railways, clouds, water, sky, sun, moon, aircraft marker lights, landing lights, runway and taxiway lights, runways and taxiways, aprons, weather effects, and new storm sounds. VOZ Australia (freeware) VAC for voice commands to interface with ATC My favorite payware aircraft is the Captain Sim C130 Hercules. And on the hardware side, TrackIR, the Buttkicker Gamer, and either the saitek yoke or hotas combined with their rudder pedals. If you like WW2 fighters, look for a copy of Shockwave's power pack 2 for FSX. It's a very good deal for the price. |

I guess thats some of the reason you like this plane so much, being its so dynamic like that. For me just playing around with the physics/flight modeling and seeing what different planes can do in extreme situations is part of the fun I have with FSX. ![]()

Thanks guys. I'm probably going to check out the demo and see if I want to plunk down the cash for it plus some decent hardware to really enjoy it. I haven't owned a joystick or anything like that since 1996.
![]() And I just realized that all the flight gear would probably totally upwards of $500. I don't think I'd ever be that serious. For example, I love Silent Hunter 3 and 4, but I never played with really high realism settings. I'd just want an arcade-y flightsim experience.
