That looks nice! I might get that one. I have never bought an addon before, though. I was waiting for the C-130. That one looked amazing but I am not sure if it is out yet.

The RealAir spitfire was my first add on purchase and to this day its still my favorite, though I haven't been using it since SP2. In a way all my add on purchases have been a dissapointment as nothing has lived up to it, with the exception of perhaps the SF260 and C-130.

I'm off at midnight, so I'll be spending a few hours tonight testing, so I'll have pics and feedback later on.

Here's my shots from last night. These are DEFAULT clouds.

Wait, the C-130 is out? Maybe I am thinking of a different plane then...

I just picked up FSX a few days ago. I'm new to the whole flight sim thing but I'm having fun just messing around right now.

sillyeagle, what graphics settings do you use? We've got pretty similar systems. My Q6600 is also clocked at 3.0ghz and my 8800GTX is at 612/2000 and I've got 4gb of ram with Vista x86. I run at 720p on my 37" tv and get respectable fps with default ultra settings with application controlled aa/af. I've noticed that my fps are higher and more stable when running in preview dx10 mode.

I've been flying around Richmond VA and a few places west of the rockies that I've lived. Basically, what settings should I be running for a nice performance/image quality balance? Also, are there any add-ons I should invest in that will enhance the visual quality without too much of a performance hit?

When it comes to settings I pretty much max everything on the scenery tab, though I keep ground shadows off, autogen at very dense, water at low 2.x, or mid 2.x depending on the scenery, and I keep Mesh at 10m. Otherwise the other settings are maxed out.

Ground shadows causes a big hit, so leave that off. Setting water to anything above low 2.x causes a big hit as well, so use low 2.x if you have performance issues. In some cases I set autogen down to dense, such as over large cities. You might want to start with low 2.x water and dense autogen, then if you have headrom notch them up to mid 2.x and very dense.

On the weather tab I used 70mi and set the cloud coverage to high.

On the traffic tab I turn everything completely off, with the exception of road traffic at 10%. Airline traffic causes a massive performance hit.

On the aircraft tab I have everything enabled.

On the video card tab I have bloom turned off, global textures at max, and I have antialiasing checked, and filtering set to trilinear since I'm forcing 16xAF in nHancer. Bloom causes a huge hit so leave it off.

Within nHancer I use 16xS supersampling set to enhance the application, with transparency supersampling enabled along with vsync and 16x anisotrpic filtering.

These settings will get you the graphics seen in my screenshots, and you should easily be in the high 20's and 30's FPS wise. I recommend setting the frame rate lock to unlimited with a quad core, but you can try locking it in the 25-30 range and see what happens, as results vary.

DX10 mode is more efficient, so there's no surprise with better performance in that mode, though its pretty buggy, especially on vista.

As to add ons there are many, so it depends on what you are looking for. I would page back as they have been recommended many time in this thread, and many of my imags identify the add on used. I will suggest some when I get time later.

I'm having a hard time comprehending the beauty and perfection of this package, and I've only flown one plane. lol The sound, visuals and flight model - I guess thats the whole plane - stand out as the most highly refined I have seen. I simply love the sound and the texture art is amazing.

Having been sufficiently blown away by the Merlin sounds I'm now I'm off to try the Griffon version.

EDIT: I'm back. The bump maps and textures are very sweet.

What drivers are you using? I'm using the 174.70's and I can't force AA with these.

Im using 174.74 x64, but whatever driver you use you'll need to use nHancer to set the 16xS AA mode.

That bird is beautifull. I guess I'll end up getting it. I knew I would.

But damn, it makes me wish Oleg would hurry up and release Battle of Britain: Storm of War. I can't wait to see a spit that pretty that I can actually fight with.

I'm currently using the 174.74's in Vista x86 and I can't force any level of AA with the CP or nhancer. I've actually never been able to force AA with any driver since 169.xx. WTF?

Are you using the beta version of nhancer I linked to? maybe that has something to do with it because I'm using it.
