Default Screen resolution stuck at 800x600 with nvidia driver/Dual Head setup problems

The initial problem is that I am unable to adjust my screen resolution out of 800x600 after switching my device to "nvidia" in xorg.conf, I'm able to load X configuring dual head with a Generic LCD (also stuck at 800x600).

Using "nv" as a driver doesn't have any screen resolution problems, but won't even load X with dual head.

I have a Nokia 447Za flat screen monitor, Winbook Powerspec flat screen TV/monitor, GeForce2. There is also a VGA Y splitter and a DVI-VGA converter. Running FC5, 1.5 Gig Memory

I should also say that I'm not sure dual head with spanning desktops is possible with the setup I have, because even in single head mode, with only the drivers for the Nokia running, the same output has always been on both the Nokia and the Powerspec (does not span desktops when loading X using dual head on nvidia driver).

I suppose my priority would be to get up and running with no screen resolution problems using the nvidia drivers, but if anybody has a fix to my dual-head issue, would be much obliged. I've enclosed my xorg.conf using single-head layout, and the xorg.conf for dual-head layout. I've checked the specs on both monitors and the HorizSync/VertRefresh for each are accurate. I've also tried to add all resolutions to 16 bit (assuming depth = bit). I believe there to also be an unrelated, unconfirmed PSU problem: monitors lose signal when left idle for a few hours (usually doesn't make it through the night), strangely, hitting the reset switch will boot the machine back up, but if I use the power switch/pull the plug, it requires multiple boot attempts before the monitors get a signal (many times applying pressure on the video card into its slot shortens the attempts). This problem occurred with a XP installation as well.

I've been using Linux for about a week, hope it is all clear, and would appreciate any help, and apologize for the length of this.

Side Note: I updated my kernel before installing nvidia, and have not run any fixes with an non-updated kernel.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

The installer log is not an nvidia-bug-report.log.

According to the EDID in your CRT, 1024x768@60Hz is the largest 'native' mode.

Thanks,
Lonni

ok, but my problem is that i can't get out of 800x600, and also, I can enter into 1280x1024 on both monitors so long as im using the nv driver as opposed to the nvidia driver.

I dd some looking through this log on my own though and did find a few things:

1: Monitor Name : DA@ F# @A
This is what FC5 setup detected (I tried to change display to the Nokia -> X wouldn't load - edited xorg.conf -> X started (display still showed DA@ F# @A) -> after doing some updates, display finally showed the Nokia)

2: Valid HSync Range : 30 kHz - 8 kHz
Certainly doesn't make much sense to me

3: looks like the drivers are auto-selecting my screen size to 800x600

Have you tested 1024x768? If it fails to work, I'd like to see a new bug report.

Thanks,
Lonni

Logs with attempts to get into 1024x768 at 16 & 24 depth
I've also removed 1280x1024 from xorg.conf
btw, I can't get into 640x480 either

Try adding the following option to xorg.conf:
Option "ModeValidation" "NoHorizSyncCheck"

Thanks,
Lonni

It doesn't look like you added what I suggested:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Option "ModeValidation" requires an string value
