Dont worry i think it should be fine for a single G80. SLI might be something else to look at..but i am sure nvidia did there homework and we should wait to see real results of games/psu usage/etc..

I was told the samething about my Antec Truepower II 550W as well..i was told it was the reason why my 7900GTX cards died (which was not true as it was hardware defect on the card itself) and was also told its not enuf for my 7950GX2...i was ready to spend alot of cash on another PSU(brought the antec already first) which..well turned out to be useless..good thing i didnt as the PSU is fine.

My PC is pretty much 24/7..2 HDD/DVDRW/7950GX2/3 Case Fans..never ran into a PSU related issue...infact i haven't had a issue with my system since i replaced the 7900GTX cards with the 7950GX2...

I agree, I highly doubt a single G80 will require a $150 quad rail power supply to function properly. I'm using a 500W Antec Smartpower 2.0 with dual 12v rails rated at 17A and 19A and currently I have zero problems with my system overclocked. In fact the only time I had problems running this system stably was with my 3 year old Antec True Power 420W with a measly 20A on a single rail (and no built in PCI-E connectors or even a 24pin ATX connector) and even THAT was after 2 weeks of hard gaming and benchmarking... it worked fine playing CoH and Battlefield 2 for 2 whole weeks before the games started giving CTDs randomly (putting my 500W in fixed the crashes). It still held up through hours of dual-prime95 and rthdribl runs though. Not bad considering the box for my GX2 recommends 450W with 27A on the 12v rail.

I know the G80 will use more power, but nvidia simply will not require people to have super high end power supplies to run their hardware... and they definitely wouldn't market it as requiring a 450W power supply with X amount of amps on the 12v if the card actually requires twice that (not to mention quad rails).

Do they mean 27A on a single 12v rail, or total of 27A on all (dual or quad) 12v rails?

Also why will the 8800GTX require only 15A, if its faster than the 7950GX2?

the 7950GX2 is basically 2 cards in one, i think thats probably why the higher amperage requirment?

They don't specify how many rails the 27A can be on. Its referring to the total 12v amps specified on your PSU. 15A is Xion's estimate of the power consumption of the G80, not the amperage requirement of the entire system.

From what you write, why won't dual rail PSUs with total Amperage of 30 and more be fit?

Is one rail really always dedicated to the CPU, and the rest of the rails to the rest of the components?
