Older games like fable are perfectly clean, but lack the fancy flashy stuff that causes the pixel shimmering. Transparency antialiasing was one of my favorite features of G70.

That would be a real welcome feature, with the increasing speculars from shaders this is on top of my wishlist after HDR+AA.

What is the size of 8800GTX? Someone says it is 28 cm long and someone says 26cm. WHat is the real size? Any reference link?

Thanks!

Someone who has a G80 for testing posted some more info on a Dutch forum:

Lumenex engine supports Coverage Sampling AA with 8x, 8xQ, 16x, 16xQ. Q-modes are optimised for best IQ. Performance impact of 16xQ CSAA is comparable to 4xMSAA. AF seems to be much better compared to previous generations.

G80 is very CPU limited. It's 50 - 70% faster than a GF7900GTX at 1920x1200 with HDR + AA + AF, but barely reaches 20-30 fps more on 1280x1024.

AA performance is very good. Turning on HDR + AA in high resolutions results in an average 20fps performance drop. Note: the card reaches 100 fps in most games. Edit: make that tested games, which probably are Prey, Serious Sam, Far Cry, Fear, BF2.

The Quantum Physics engine isn't a seperate thing. Physics are done by the streamprocessors (that's why it has so many of them).

DX10 performance can not be tested yet and in DX9 applications the unified architecture works as a fixed function architecture (dedicated pixelshaders and vertex shaders).

Hmm... since the card has dedicated pixel and vertex shaders in DirectX 9 mode, does anyone know how many of each it actually has?

Why doesn't it perform best at only 1280x1024 resolution?

What about those who still has 17" monitors and not 19"?

Surely you will get more fps at res of 1280x1024 than at res of 1600x1280 (and so on), right ?

I think it's b/c it's CPU limited at that resolution.

It means that You crank up the AA + AF, and it will still be faster than anything out there. It just will be more CPU dependant

I don't understand

What resolution is best to play on this card?

Also, if you play at 1280x1024 on high settings, surely it will run faster and smoother than any older card on same settings?

You can't generalize with resolution. You have to include the game into the equation. I bet you will need a G80 to run Crysis at that res with AA, but for current games it will be overkill.

Maybe for some games it'll be overkill but I could use more performance in games such as NFSMW, TRL, and Oblivion to name a few. There have also been a few of the newer demos where I'd like performance to be a little better (this is at 1920x1200 4xAA/16xAF and usually with TAA:SS on as well).

A totally agree, but my post was referring to 1280x1024...
