Honestly, the PSU doesn't sound that great. But if you're hurting for cash and want to chance it, go ahead.

But knowing what I know if I were you I would replace it with something else.

Don't know if this makes any difference, but I used to run a system consisting of 2 x 7800GTX + 1HD + DVD + Athlon X2 4400+@2500 + 2GB Corsair XMS Pro @2.8V with the TT Purepower 680W PSU for about a year. I never had a problem. Not once did the computer bluescreen or behave erratical.

I am somewhat unsure if I got the rev 1 or rev 2 though.

I was hoping it'd b good enough to drive a 8800GTX, but time will tell I suppose.

According to this, 2x 7900GTX in SLI (90nm process) consume the same power that 2x 7800GTX in SLI (130nm process).
So if you ran 2x 7800GTX with a TT Purepower 680W PSU, you would also be able to run 2x7900GTX, and because of that you will be able to run a single 8800GTX.
A single 8800GTX consumes less power than 2x 7900GTX in SLI.

Why not to try the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator?

You will end up with some overhead but it always better to have it.
btw, two 7900 GTX in SLI will consume about 194W max and about 16-18A on +12V

I did. Problem is that it only suggests wattage ( around 420W), n doesn't say much abt the rails in specifics.

The funny thing is, I think I saw that 7800GTXs needed around 9A on full load. ( Which kinda rhymes with the 7900GTX eating up abt the same ).

I am pretty sure its 15V,15V,8V on the three 12V rails of my PSU.

But.. if one of the 15V-rails is reserved for the CPU, then either one of my cards must have been drawing current from two rails or I have been running dangerously close to the limit on the 8V-rail. Just funny that the system has been rock stable (even when overclocked).

Or maybe I just got it all wrong.

Are you going to get one early and then share your results here?
