Well, I got to play it a little bit, but I have to rip my 7950 out now and send it away to France, so I wont be playing it again until I'm running a G80.

It seemed pretty cool but the combat feels really clunky... 90% of the time I couldnt get it to do what I wanted. I dont remember it feeling like this in the demo. It was never real smooth, but it seems really awkward now.

For example, I only did the thing where you stab the guy on the ground a total of about 5 or 6 times though I tried it probably 60 times. Its like it just doesnt work most of the time. He just swings straight ahead or slashes the guy on the ground.

It'll take some getting used to I'm sure.

But the graphics are very pretty and atmosphere seems nice.

The framerates werent real great considering I was running at 1600x1200 with 8xAF and no AA, but it was playable.

I think the fast pace of the game makes it a lot more framerate sensitive. 40fps felt terrible to me when trying to fight. I just hope that whatever is causing the game to slow down in some areas (its 70+fps most of the time, but in some places its 20-40) is a GPU limitation rather than CPU.

I'm getting a G80 now, but I'm not ready to go for a Core2 Duo yet.

Same here, G80 now, C2D quad some time next year. So I finally got some time to install the game and fire it up. So far I'm really liking it. For me the combat also felt a bit clunky but it just took a few chapters and I've gotten used to the movements. Block, parry, kick and power blow. I've succeeded in impaling almost everyone I've attempted it on. I think you just have to be in the right position aiming directly at their body before they start to get up. I found the first few chapters pretty hard until I got the heal spell. I only played a little bit of the demo and thought it was okay but now getting into the game I'm very impressed with graphics and level of immersion. Running from the Cyclops was great. One crash so far, 1280x960 2aa 16af 30-85FPS I give it a 9/10.

Oh, thats one thing I forgot to comment on... the game was perfectly stable and the load times were short.

I didnt defrag before or after installing and I had other programs running in the background.

I dont know why some people are having so many problems with this game, but I hope the patch fixes it for you guys without breaking mine. It seemed to work flawlessly on my rig.

I'm still puzzled why this game is getting such bad reviews, I havnt had one performance problem yet, I havnt even experienced the classic source engine stuttering which I always get in Half Life games.

Ok... I'll try right now.

HL2 ran fine at 800x600 with minimum settings on this card. Dark Messiah might work at 640x480.

EDIT:

Not even close... runs at less than 10fps unless I'm facing a wall (then its around 25-30). And thats at 800x600 with everything set to low in directx 7 mode with funky colors on anything thats supposed to be shiny.

I think this card is finally showing its age...

The trick to that is to make sure the cursor is aimed directly at the guy on the ground when you press and hold the left mouse button. If it's off by even a little you won't impale him.

Can I use cheats in the demo. I've tried adding -console to the target box, but I can't get to the console in the game.

Yes, you can use cheats. To get the console go to Options, select the Keyboard tab, then click the Advanced button. On the dialog box that appears there's a single checkbox to activate the console.

Edit: Just noticed you asked about the demo, not the full game. I'm not sure about the demo.

There isn't a console in the demo. You have to edit the configs to bind keys to the cheats.
