Whew... ok, I found it.

Thats a pretty glaring bug having the game crash like that. My game is all patched up and it still does it.

Anyway, I also checked the index of a walkthrough to see how much was left and I'm not really even close to the end, so I'm happy. It was getting that "last level" feel and thats a very bad thing when I haven't really put many hours into the game yet.

I'm still getting some slightly irritating moments but the game seems more fun since I started playing today. The game gets so much better when you get enough points to upgrade your strength or to get that next higher spell... being able to use a fresh new weapon or spell makes it feel like a new game. I cant stress it enough for people playing the game now: make a focused character and manage your resources.

I tried spreading my points out so I was more balanced but it just doesnt work. 4 weak abilities get you nowhere fast. And since health is pretty hard to come by later in the game (especially because of all the stupid things that poison you) you really need to remember to use your stuff sparingly... and dont be afraid to reload a recent saved game if you just wasted 10 potions fighting one zombie.

Overall I liked it. Thought it was too short though. Nice graphics and excellent frame rates once I put the 8800GTX in. I encountered only two bugs along with way. Once I could not climb one of the ladders, so I switched to the Source Engine version and it worked, then went back to the regular version and deleted the Source files. (We can do that with this game you know). The second bug was with a particular single chest...I'd click to open it and the game would crash to the desktop. Never resolved that one, so I just ignored that one chest.

Once I go the "sneak" skills and the outfit with the "G" on it, the game felt a bit like Thief, which is one of my favorites of all time.

Not the greatest screenshots, but still shows off some of the impressive graphical effects in the game.

Currrently, I'm having to find those Gems for that spider statue. And those zombies are getting rather annoying.

Well I just finished the game.

Overall I think it was good, but pretty sloppy.

7.5\10 is a reasonable score for the game.

There were just too many little quirks that kill the immersion for it to get much higher of a score. It seemed like I was running into rather glaring glitches\problems during every big important scene and in any given part of the game I was running into many smaller ones.

The final scene seemed really anti-climactic for me because (trying to avoid spoilers here) the character I was with was trying to talk to me and help me make my decision, but for some reason they stayed at the door 100 feet away so I could barely hear them. And during the final battle with the monster, I was getting a strange amount of mouse lag. The framerate was fine, it was just really laggy for no good reason. And that battle was pretty clunky as well. I was just sort of winging it and I won really easily.

The difficulty of the game could have used some work as well. If you lag behind on your upgrades its really hard... but as soon as you get decent weapons and the skills to use them, you wont have any reason to hide from even the biggest enemies. I had probably 20 full health potions, 40 mana potions, 15 health potions and a huge amount of other stuff left at the end. I barely needed any in the last third of the game.

All of that aside though, the majority of the gameplay was pretty satisfying. The feeling of exploration was decent. The graphics were superb the whole way through. The sound was mostly great (though the enemy voices were really repetitive and not very believable). I can see myself playing through this again too. I played mainly a fighter with some magic. A thief\assassin seems like it'd be pretty awesome. As would a straight magic user.

I haven't touched the multiplayer yet. I'm not really excited about it since it was rather frustrating in the demo, but I'll probably play it a little bit.

I hope after this game Arcane has enough money and experience to work on Arx 2.

I just got my free copy of this game courtesy of eVGA
I have to say that I never play fantasy RPG type games and this game is really fun. The visuals in some parts are excellent. Source never looked better IMHO.

Better late than never...I just finished this and had a blast, except for the freakin ghouls. How irritating can you get?

I never played a fantasy game like this before. Could someone tell me if this is along the same lines as Oblivion? I don't want to spend the money if not, first person all the way with me. Thanks.

It isnt really anything like Oblivion.

The basic setting is similar but the gameplay is pretty much the complete opposite. In Oblivion you freely explore a huge area and complete quests or join guilds... anything you want really.

In Dark Messiah you just follow the path and progress through each level, like a first person shooter.

Its too bad there isnt a demo of Oblivion though.

any way to skip levels?

I was in in the level with the spider, where you have to find the jewels. I then stoped playing for a while, and now i lost all my save games.
