Hi. I just downloaded the nvidia beta driver because I was getting a little framedrop when tryng some open gl app with the drivers I've got on the ubuntu repository.
I gess i have everything to install the driver since it is not the first time I did it. When I go to the console, kill the GDM and run the installer it goes well. No error message here. I've tried to configure my X with both, the installer's configuration, and manually changing my xorg.conf. But both causes to X crashes saying "(EE) No screen found or none with a usable configuration" . What I'm missing? I will post a bug report shortly. I'm running ubuntu edgy eft (6.10) on a FX 5200. Thanx in adavance |

Here's the problem:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module! However, its not clear why it failed to load from your bug report. What happens if you run "modprobe nvidia" ? Thanks, Lonni |

Sorry Sorry Sorry.
That's right Lonni. I can't load the module because I have removed the linux-restricted-modules-common package that is a set of script to handle the restricted modules. apt-get install and modprobe solved it. Thanks anyway for the quick answer. |

By the way. Now that I've got 9625 working I've installed (as everybody) compiz, the official one. I can see, a little frame drops, not only in my desktop, it happen in opengl games with or without compiz.
It happens with 8774 too |
