Default Oops: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9625-pkg1.run

I have a machine (Toshiba 5105-s607, GeForce 440Go 32MB) running Fedora Core 5, updated with Xorg 7.1. It runs well with the 8774 driver. I tried installing the 9625 driver (ran a "--sanity" check too), and I get an Oops when starting X. The screen stays black, but I could ssh in from another machine.

I tried running the nvidia-bug-report.sh, but it hangs trying to access /proc. It looks like the nvidia driver is very hung; Xorg is unkillable (-9) and the nvidia module cannot be removed (in use).

I captured the oops from /var/log/messages, attached. Since I couldn't run the bug report with 9625, I reinstalled 8774 (the only change) and ran it. It's also attached.

Either remove the eeprom module, or use this patch from zander:

The eeprom issue and that patch don't appear to be related to the oops I'm experiencing. I applied the patch, but still get the oops, now in 9626.

I commented out the following entries in the nvidia-bug-report.sh, so that it wouldn't hang, since any reference to /proc/driver/nvidia hangs after the oops:

#append "/proc/driver/nvidia/version"
#append_glob "/proc/driver/nvidia/cards/*"
#append_glob "/proc/driver/nvidia/agp/*"
#append_glob "/proc/driver/nvidia/warnings/*"
#append "/proc/driver/nvidia/registry"

The bug report minus these entries is attached.

Is this a known failure in the nvidia beta driver?
