TNT2 Ubutu 6.10: No 3d

Hi all

I have this problem... installed nvidia legacy thru synaptic on ubuntu 6.10 (grafic card ELSA ERAZOR III/ Riva TNT2)... changed xorg.conf from nv to nvidia.... it boots up with the nvidia logo.... but... no 3d... and when i say no 3d i mean absolutely no 3d.... everithing else is ok...

The nvidiafb does not load and the vesafb does - has this anything to do with the problem and if how do i fix it?

I have exactly the same problem. My Card is a

Does anyone know a solution for this?

Could it be better if I install the nvidia-driver by myself (manually) without the ubuntu-package?

I hope there is a solution, i want an edgy with 3D-graphics.

Hi..

I have to say that i fixed the problem with the help of the guys here and on the ubuntu forums...

Well... the first thing you have to do is to have the right drivers installed:

nvidia-glx-legacy
nvidia-kernel-common
linux-restricted-modules (your kernel version)
nvidia-settings
nvidia-xconfig

After installation run sudo nvidia-xconfig

then you have to sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and add

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

also just check that the driver is not "nv" but "nvidia"

That should do it....

Hello

After I had wrote my reply, i saw the other Thread in the Linux-area. There I found the solution.

I've installed only the packages nvidia-glx-legacy, nvidia-kernel-common, linux-restricted-modules (your kernel version). Then I made sudo nvidia-glx-config but it said, i had the wrong kernel. So I installed the build-essential package and it worked and said i have to change the Driver from nv to nvidia in the xorg.conf. After that i had exactly the same problme like you. Then I put the Section Extension in the xorg.conf like you describe it and now it works. I haven't installed nvidia-settings, nvidia-xconfig.

You said your 3D-graphic is slow and uses to much CPU. glxgears -printfps shows me 620FPS and the CPU-usage is 100%. With dapper I had 650FPS and also 100% CPU-usage. So there isn't a great difference.

Well.. it works fine now... after reboot..

my frames output at max...

964 frames in 5.0 seconds = 192.691 FPS

Well.. have to buy a new card

But my card is an TNT2 like yours. Why do you have only 192FPS?

I have an ELSA ERAZOR III (riva tnt2 32 MB)... is yours the same?

And i am running on 1280x1024 at 75 hz...

At 1024x768 it is:

1791 frames in 5.0 seconds = 358.119 FPS

At 800x600 it is:

5325 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1064.809 FPS

I am runnig on 1024x768 at 60Hz.


I have still a problem with my system. I don't now if it is cause of the graphiccard. My Graphic stagnates here and there. About each second the Graphic stagnates for a short time (~1/4 sec). It is not only if I have started a aplication which uses a great 3D-card. If I move my mouse fast a while it stagnates in between. Or if y move my cursor on the panel and back a few times. Do have this problem too?

I will try it, maybe it helps. Otherwise i will downgrade to Dapper.

My Edgy freezes wenn i plug in a USB-Device and the mouse stagnates. That's to much. That's not stable in my opinion.
