Default GeForce 440 Go and widescreen LCD

I've got a Dell Inspiron 8200 with 64MB 440 Go and UXGA 1600x1200 internal screen.

I usually run the laptop docked with an external monitor. Recently my 21" CRT died and I've tried replacing it with a Samasung 225bw. The samsung is a wide format 1680x1050 LCD.

I can't seem to get the video adapter to drive this external monitor in it's natural resolution. If I turn off the internal screen and drive just the external monitor, the highest setting it will allow is 1280x1024. If I enable the internal screen and external screen together, it gives me 1400x1050 (which results in ugly scaling for both lcds).

I've got the latest BIOS and the latest W2K drivers from Dell.

I tried installing the latest geforce drivers from nividia, but the installer just unpacked, looked around, and said "no changes to be made".

Any help? or is this adapter just unable to support 1680 x1050?

As a seperate issue, is there a way to get the 440 Go to drive the laptop screen and an external monitor as two seperate displays? All I've managed to date is clone mode.

I have INSPIRON 8200 same as you with
NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go (Microsoft Corporation)
NVIDIA
2004-04-07
5.6.7.3
Microsoft Windows Publisher

But it crashes frecuently and it has many problems to conect 2nd monitor. Recently I tried to conect it to a Sony WXGA proyector but that resolution 1280x768 was not able.

Please if you find something i would thankyou to notificate me.
Thank you.

Try to install an updated driver. They're available at www.laptopvideo2go.com. I wouldn't hold my breath about it working, however. The 440 Go is merely a glorified GeForce2 GTS and may very well not support any widescreen resolutions.
