display corruption on GeForce 440 Go

Hi,

It's a Dell Latitude C840 with GeForce 440 Go. I'm using FC6, kernel 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6, with nvidia driver 8776. Under 1600x1400 the right & bottom side of screen is corrupted (jpg picture attached). The effictive good view area is just1400x1050. nvidia-bug-report.log also attached. Some additional info:
- using fallback driver "nv", the display is all fine
- lower the resolution (e.g. to 1400x1050) the problem still there
- change to some old version of nvidia driver doesn't help.

Any idea what's wrong? Thanks in advance!

X was running at 1400x1050 in your bug report. Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate a bug report while the problem is present.

Also does this option have any impact?
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "true"

Thank you very much for such a quick response!

Strange, it's supposed to run at 1600x1400 (it is if driver "nv" is used), but driver "nvidia" force it running at 1400x1050, and the margin area become mess.

with "startx --logverbose 5", new nvidia-bug-report attached.

Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "true" doesn't help.

aha, could this be the problem: nvidia driver wrongly recognize the native resolution?

I'm pretty sure the screen is native 1600x1200. In Windows it's 1600x1200. And following is the X log when driver "nv" is used:

Any idea how to teach nvidia driver recognize the correct native resolution? Or do you need me provide any other information? Thanks!

Have you tested 1.0-9626?

Actually, I'm having the same issue with you on 1400x1050 & 1280x1024 as what show on the sshot. Running same card on Dell Inspiron 8200 here.

I can manage to get 1600x1200 work by adding;

Option "UseEDID" "0" &
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "1"

Hope it will work for you w/ 8776. Cheer!

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. With option "UseEDID" the screen is totally messed, no matter with or without option "ExactModeTimingsDVI". But thank you very much anyway!

Hm, weird. I got this issue since version 7667, if I can remember correctly.
Are you sure you did disabled UseEDID? By default is enabled. On my xorg conf here I still run 1600x1200 on modeline here. I tested removing and restart X, still work. Could you post your xorg.conf here?

Yeah it's weird, because we seems have very similar problem. I remember initially nvidia driver works fine, but this problem started occuring since maybe more than 1 years ago, and I switched to "nv" since then.

upgrade to 1.0.9629 (seems still a beta) from livna, after startx screen is totally blank, as is 1.0.9625. Again attached Xorg.log when running as "start -- -logverbose 5", in case it might be helpful.
