Default AC3 Pass through

I'm using FC5 with the standard alsa drivers in the 2.6.18-1 kernel. I'm attempting to use AC3 pass through with mplayer, but am receiving the following errors when it attempts to open the device.

alsa-lib: confmisc.c:1107snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'cards.NFORCE.pcm.iec958.2:CARD=0,AES0=6,AES1=130, AES2=0,AES3=2'
alsa-lib: conf.c:3492_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory
alsa-lib: conf.c:3961snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory
alsa-lib: pcm.c:2099snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM iec958

The results of aplay -l are below:

aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: CK804 [NVidia CK804], device 0: Intel ICH [NVidia CK804]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: CK804 [NVidia CK804], device 2: Intel ICH - IEC958 [NVidia CK804 - IEC958]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I am able to hear standard stero sound from my spdif connector, however the pass through does not seem to function properly. Has anyone succesfully set this up in Linux?

Thanks
