Default (1.0-9742) Unable to determine the nvidia kernel module filename (fixed)

I'm having trouble installing the newest beta version on Ubuntu 6.10 amd64; the previous version installed no problem.

When I attempt to build the kernel module, the installer displays the following error:

"Error: unable to determine the NVIDIA kernel module filename."

in the background, I see:
:896: ==: unexpected operator
make[1]: Makefile: no such file or directory
make[1]: *** no rule to make target `Makefile'. Stop.
make: *** [print-module-filename] Error 2
I have installed the latest kernel headers ( apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` ) as well as the kernel source.

Hi!, you have to extract the package from NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9742-pkg2.run

To do this just type : sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9742-pkg2.run -x

then go to the directory just created and type : cd usr/src/nv

then you have to change a little code from the file conftest.sh, to do this :

sudo vim conftest.sh

then in the line 350 where it says : if [ "$RET" == "0" ]; then
change it to if [ "$RET" = "0" ]; then

save the changes

and then in the console close gdm and run ./nvidia-installer
