Default 9629: No colours on TV-Out

Hello,

another problem with the newest driver (9629): I can't get any coloured output on my TV-out (with Twinview in the nvidia-settings utility), only monochrome (black & white). I already tried to solve this by playing around with the "TVOutFormat" option in the file xorg.conf, but with no sucess so far. If I don't set this option the image is black & white, the same happens when I set it to "COMPOSITE". When I set value of this option to "SVIDEO", my TV screen remains totally black. The physical connection is, as far as I understand this, SVIDEO (only one cable is connected with my TV).

My system is Ubuntu Edgy AMD64 (with X.org 7.1), my graphic card is a Geforce 7600GS. I have attached the nvidia-bug-report and my xorg.conf below.

Kind regards,
Jan

Hello,
first, are you sure that the cable is OK (did you tested in windows on with other computer?). I had the same problem with a TV-Out cable (some of the cheap cables have pins missing or are not standard so i had to connect 2 pins on the SCART end, http://pinouts.ru/Video/SVideo_pinout.shtml )
Cheers,
Andrei

I think the cable doesn't cause the problem since I didn't have this problem with an older version of the driver (8776).

Kind regards,
Jan

Adding
Code:
Option "TwinView" "true"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50"
to the Device section of my xorg.conf seems to solve this issue.

Kind regards,
Jan

I have to correct myself: I only get colours if my TV is connected and turned on before the X server starts, if I connect it afterwards, the output is only monochrome. So maybe this is a driver bug?

Kind regards,
Jan

Another idea: If I set the "TVStandard" Option to "NTSC" instead of "PAL-B" I likewise get a monochrome image (no matter if the TV was connected before starting the X server). So maybe the nvidia-settings tool (or some other component) assumes incorrectly that the output should be NTSC and ignores the specific xorg.conf option if the TV gets connected during a X session?

Kind regards,
Jan

Finally a solution: After a long time of playing around with several xorg.conf options, I found out that adding
Code:
Option "ConnectedMonitors" "CRT-1,TV-0"
to the device section makes the ouput coloured all the time.

Kind regards,
Jan
