Default legacy driver and CRT/LCD hotkey

I've installed the 7184 legacy driver from livna.org on on my inspiron 8500 with fedora core 6.
When trying to use the CRT/LCD hotkey, my laptop lcd ends up displaying a virtual desktop within an 800x600 window. As my LCD doesn't appear to give Edid information I've set the following options in my xorg.conf;

Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "31.5 - 90"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60.0 - 60.0"

However this gives;

(WW) NVIDIA(0): Cannot use option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" when TwinView is
(WW) NVIDIA(0): not enabled
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Cannot use option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" when TwinView is
(WW) NVIDIA(0): not enabled

But when pressing the hotkey, the log shows

(WW) NVIDIA(0): No SecondMonitorHorizSync given; using default range
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No SecondMonitorVertRefresh given, using default range

This is clearly telling me to use these options, but the driver ignores them when they are set.
This did used to work earlier in the 7xxx series (or maybe 6xxx?). It would complain about the options but it would still use them.
