Default GoForce 7400 and films (twice)

Hi guys,
sorry I post here the same thread posted previously in the other section (nvidiao 7xx and 8xx series) because I think that here it is the right place.
I have a sonyvaio laptop (sz2m/b) bearing a nvidia GoForce 7400. I am using the latest xorg-6.9 on my slackware-11.0. I have installed the latest nvidia drivers (8776) and everything works fine except that I cannot see films or just video with xine/mplayer/noatun because my linux freeze completely!! From log it appears to be a nvidia issue also because switching to the intel945 video (this laptop comes with two video card) I have no problem at all.
Any help??
btw, I saw the new driver coming out, 9629. are they also for this card?

Then, and this is suggestion to the developpers, the installation of the nvidia drivers overwrite the original libGL and driglx of xorg which is a bit unfair since then I cannot use anymore the dri on my intel card. I did manually, using few shell script and linking to the right file on depending of the card. I think that it should be easy to fix the automatic installation.

Thanks in advance
Regards

andrea

Yes, 1.0-9629 supports this GPU, as does 1.0-9742. If this problem persists with the newer drivers, please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log along with a pointer to the content required to reproduce it.

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi,
in attach you find a series of bug files with the two different driver versions: 9629 and 9742, before and the recovery and after playing a video.
However, I have to say that with 9742 I can reproduce the video using xine (it is a dvd) without any sort of problem!! So now it seems okay. Is 9742 stable enough? I noticed that my console (I start in init 3) after loading X increase size like if I am not using the framebuffer.
For now, thanks I will keep tuned.

ciao

If 1.0-9742 works for you, then I'd recommend you stick with it, even though its currently considered a beta driver.

I'm not sure that I understand your comment about the console increasing in size. Can you clarify it?

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi,
in few words I start my slackware in init 3 and without framebuffer. Basically, at the boot stage my "effective screen" has a small size respect to the whole lcd screen. after I load X with the latest beta (9742) drivers I swapped to the console with ctrl+alt+f2 and the "effective screen" now is the whole lcd. it is just a bit weird ... not problem at all.
However, how do I check that actually I am running on 1280x800 and 60Hz?

Thanks

Regards

andrea

There are several different places to view your current mode. Looking in your X log would be one of them.

Hi,
I have notice that with 9629 and 9742 drivers my kde have a wrong resolution, whereas running xfce the resolution is okay. In kde I have big character, big icons even if the xorg.log says that i am running in 1280x800.
the old drivers 8776 are okay but i am stuck with the video. however, the laptop freeze as soon as i start xine even without watching video. see attach the bug files for 9626 and 8776.
I am wondering whether with the 9742 drivers, that one working with xine, the issue is related to kde and so not to nvidia card. In that case do you know how can I change settings in kde in order to get the tiny and nice resolution as in 8776 drivers?
Thanks in advance
Regards

00, DFP-0: 800x600"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0,CRT-0"
Option "HorizSync" "CRT-0: 28-60;"

Thanks in advance

xspirix,
you said:

may I suggest you to try gentoo linux? it has, among other nifty things, a way to handle parallel opengl installations via its eselect tool. really useful. example: it allows me to easily switch xorg-x11 libGL when with the nv driver, and to the nvidia one when with the nvidia binary one.
