I'll ask our resident tweaker David Wood if he could develop a perl script that parses the news headline file when we update it and create a converted XML formatted file.

Our news headline file is "included" into the index page dynamically and contains the following HTML:

To convert it to XML, like the link you gave me at Slashdot, should be straighforward.

http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf

I'll PM David and ask for his input in this thread.

I think this is possible. I made a mini news reading script and web clipping for the palm pilot a couple of years ago. It displayed a simple list of headlines and one story at a time when you clicked on it. This would be a similar concept. If I can find my old code ill adapt it to generate xml. I'd rather it be a seperate little app than adding even more if-then-else logic to news publisher

I want an RSS feed!! I have to settle for overclocked cafe news for now (on AvantGo)... but I just got this done, and now my Handspring Treo 90 is even MORE useful... I use Fireviewer converter to convert the nvnews front page every 2 days or so, but it'd be great if you guys had an avantGo extended RSS...

...or some other way to put nvnews stuff on my PDA... Wish I could put the forums on my 64mb SD card daily... I don't store much on it YET.

oops, you have your first break:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Chars like & need to be escaped. You can solve this by surrounding title's with CDATA sections...
