Exclamation EVGA 680i goes BEEP every so often - is this normal?

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum. I've just bought a cool EVGA 680i and everything installed and runs fine :

P4 3.0g
2 x GeForce 6800gs in SLI
2 x 1gb of cheap(ish) memory 4-4-4-12
2 x 250g SATA II HDD
1 x 600w SLI power supply
Formatted c: drive and installed everything from scratch (just to be sure!)

I've upgraded from an ASUS P5ND2 SLI and I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!

However...... (and this is where any help would be MUCH appreciated).

Two things:

1) After installing nVidia Monitor I noticed it had a red square next to PCI-E under voltages. It said the voltage was 1.4000 V

In bios I changed the SPP voltage to 1.20V (it was on auto) and the square is now green..... Does this mean I can relax and not worry about this?

and secondly....

2) Every so often my mobo beeps. Just a single beep. I can't determine what I am doing to 'make' it beep. It seems to be random. It started beeping while I was playing Battlefield 2 and 2142, but now seems to beep at other times aswell. For example, it has beeped once while I am typing this!!

Any ideas what this could be? Is it a warning of some kind from the mobo?

Please help!!! Any advice is MUCHLY APPRECIATED

Oh, and while i'm at it.... anyone have any advice what I should upgrade next? scan.co.uk are trying to sell me 5-5-5-15 memory (at 200!) - should I get this or upgrade to a core 2 duo? I don't which will improve my system the best (I can't afford both!).

Anyway, i've gone on too long.... a reply to this would be great guys - thanks in advance!!!!!!

-Mark

yeah, I suggest you upgrade your CPU first, did you check all the wires where connected correctly, Heatsink installed properly on teh CPU, check all PCI/PCI-E/ slots and such and make sure all hardware are properly in their slots

Are you using a PS2 keyboard? Try using a USB one.

I think this is a 'feature' of the board - I get exactly the same, and am running e6700 plus USB.

Beep is fairly quiet, not like an error beep - seems to happen most often when lots of disk i/o

Atopork - Yes I have a power socket on the mobo, and yes I do have a power lead connected to it.

Andy - The beep is quite loud on my system... Although I do still have the side off the PC so maybe it will get quieter when I put it back on.

The beeping is not a feature of the motherboard. The beeps tend to happen when there is a good deal of stress placed on the system. Just fire up any 1st person shooter that uses keyboard controls and you will start to receive the random beeps if you have a P/S 2 keyboard. The solution is to either replace the P/S 2 keyboard with a USB one, or get a P/S 2 to USB adapter. I found a Belkin adapter at my local Staples and now those annoying beeps are gone.

I have heard about this from serval fourms ,a usb keyboard seems to fix it ,and EVGA knows about it ,I sure it will be fixed in a future Bios update.

I can confirm a USB keyboard will stop the beeping.
