Default nVidia drivers on Dell M90 with Quadro 2500FX and Ubuntu Edgy

Hi all,
I'd like to know your experience with the configuration in title.

I'm running Kubuntu 6.10 "Edgy Eft" on a Dell Precision M90 mobile workstation, Quadro 2500FX equipped.

I'm still evaluating if definitively run 32 or 64 bit version of Kubuntu, running several benchmarks on both architectures.

I started trying to install drivers on 32 bit downloading installer from nVidia site, but it didn't worked. So I installed from Kubuntu packages: the drivers work, but apt also installed a new i386 kernel that does not support SMP, so make only 1 core working and not both.

With 64 bit system, I have no problems, everything goes well.

Any suggestion? I'm new to nVidia world, I heard about a nVidia display GUI, what is it?

Thank all,

Paolo
