ASUS P1-AH2 / M2N8L mobo: onboard network card problems

I'm having serious problems getting the onboard network card to work on this thing. I've tried installing FC5, FC6, Suse 10.1 and now RHEL 4 u4 x86_64, all with the same results, the onboard network adapter is recognized but fails to start. Here's what the output looks like in the boot log:

ifup: Determining IP information for eth0...
ifup: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Function not implemented
ifup: SIOCSIFFLAGS: Function not implemented
ifup: failed.
network: Bringing up interface eth0: failed

I've set the acpi=off, I've turned off and unplugged the system for 20 seconds to flush anything that may be cached, tried using the stock drivers, then tried using the drivers supplied for RHEL 4 u3 x86_64 all with the same result. I'm also seeing this same error on Suse 10.1, FC5 and others. None of them are able to bring up eth0. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Configuration:

ASUS P1-AH2 / AM2 socket w/ 4200+ X2
2GB RAM (tested overnight with memtest)
100 GB IDE drive

What board is that again?? I don't see it listed on the Asus website.. What Nvidia Chipset is it using?? I run an Asus Crosshair which uses the Nvidia 590 chipset with FC5. It runs without a problem. You won't have any luck with RHEL4 as it's using the 2.6.9.xx kernel, and doesn't support the later boards/chipsets. (Which is why I'm running FC5. They should have RHEL5 out soon, and that will support this board.. (2.6.18.xx kernel))

It's a barebones system, I don't think the mobo is sold separate, here's what's in there:

North Bridge: nVidia Crush 51PV
South Bridge: nVidia MCP 51

The funny thing is that it recognizes the chipset and tries to use the forcedeth driver but it just won't fire up. I sent a request for help / complaint to tech-support at ASUS.. "Penny" in tech-support responded and asked me to switch to Windows.

Sure Penny, just for you. :-P

Typical, I tend to get that alot too.. And that doesn't help you with your problem..

Hmm.. My system uses the following: - (I don't have the second ethernet card enabled in the BIOS, I'm only using the Nvidia one)

lcpci output:
00:10.0 Bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP55 Ethernet (rev a2)

It's using the forcedeath driver without a problem..

Oh, and was FC5 & FC6 updated to the latest kernel??
