Okay, so I am a kubuntu newbie. I downloaded the latest linux drivers. Followed the instructions for editing the Xconfig file, rebooted now I get no GUI and when I try to install the driver it tells me it can't.
I edited the file because it told me it couldn't install the driver with X server running. I assume I could edit the file again to get X back, but that doesn't help me install the drivers. Any ideas? thx |

ALT+F1
sudo init 3 sh /path/to/drivers/NVIDiA-1.0-XXXX-pkg1.run After succesful installation edit your xorg.conf anch change driver from "nv" to "nvidia". There are plenty of howtos on google.com to be honest.

What you have to do if you want to install the driver by hand and have the aforementioned package installed is to edit this file: /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common and make the line at the bottom look like this: Code:
DISABLED_MODULES="nv"
