Machine hangs with 97.42/G80
I am trying to get a G80 to work on stock Ubuntu 6.10 on an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, which has successfully run G70's in the past. I have also updated motherboard BIOS to latest stable version from ASUS.
My G80 is an XFX G80 GTX, which I am using for GPGPU research.
Installing the kernel module is no problem, and from text consoles I can validate that /proc/driver/nvidia/version yields 97.42
However, the moment I start X the machine hangs hard. No ping, no ssh etc.
I have tried starting X -logverbose 5, but no logfile is ever written to disk.
I have included /var/log/Xorg.0.log and nvidia-bug-report. But the bug-report script is executed with no X running.
Anyone who has seen similar behavior?

Re: Machine hangs with 97.42/G80
I have the same MB and N80 chip and have the same problem. What is strange is when I try to run the vesa driver instead, it also does not work. I wonder if the N80 beta driver does not have dual-link dvi support? I am trying to drive a 30" dell, also would like to GPGPU stuff (Cg, brook, etc) in linux.
