Acualy, 4x4 is a really good deal, your getting 4 chips for 500$ for 95% of the performance of the 1000$ Q6700 chip, so what if your using a little bit for energy, your saving 500$ in the door and your investing in a K8L board which is going to TEAR that **** apart.

Actually in my Froogle searches today, you can obtain the amd fx 70 for $315. the mobo is now down to 330$ so that 500 you mention is only 315.

That is $315 for four cores!!

as far as my power bill is concerned, i am concerned about the environment and all but i dont think that i will even notice the extra pennies a little larger power supply would create on my home bill... now i am not talking about setting up a server farm here you know...

Still going to reuse my 7950 GX2 to start off,and the motherboard and 4 gigs of DDR2 800(Corsair Dominators),are in my hands right now,but not the processors yet,as i get my stuff locally, thru a shop that i've been doing business with for the past 10 years...

One thing to note is that the prices quoted for the processors are for single units,so 2 FX70's at the best current prices, still cost more than AMD's MSRP recommended price(599$ US for a pair)..

And?....

Retail outlets are selling the FX 70/72/74 series for more than the MSRP suggested by AMD....Anywhere from 50 to 100$ more for the pair of CPU's in fact...

Each of those CPU's have their own retail packaging(i checked),so you have to buy 2 CPU boxes,and the cheapest i've seen for the FX70 specifically,is 325$ a piece,so it comes to 650$ for a pair,wich is 50$ above AMD's MSRP(599$ for a pair).

FX 72's run for 450$ each,wich makes that 900$ for a pair,wich is roughly 100$ more than AMD's suggested retail(799$).

FX74's are 550$ on average,so that makes it 1100$ for a pair and again,that's 100$ more than suggested retail for a pair(999$).

Don't think for one second that there's 2 CPU's inside the same retail box,and that they're selling them from 275 to 450$ less than the suggested retail, depending on the pair you choose, cause they're not,not even close(i wish)...
