Just upgraded to 2.6.19 and there is a build error with the nvidia drivers. I've attached the nvidia-installer.log. Thanks for your help.

1.0-8776 is no longer supported and isn't expected to build against 2.6.19. Please use 1.0-9629.
Thanks, Lonni |

I really didnt want to install the new drivers and now that I did I am sorry.....
1) everything seems big (I think it changed the font or something) 2) it ignores the modeline ive used forever and downgrades my refresh to 85hz Can you help me out? Thanks. |

The driver has no control over fonts. The DPI likely is different. See the driver README for details on how to control the DPI.
If your modeline isn't working, please start X with the following command: startx -- -logverbose 6 and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log. Thanks, Lonni |

I am unclear about what Nvidia expects those of us with 2.6.19 and newly-unsupported NV2 cards to do.
I am running 8776 on 2.6.19 with the attached patch, which the OP is welcome to. You have said there will be a new fork of the legacy driver, but it isn't here and I am not going to stay on an old kernel because of the Nvidia driver. (In case you need a hint about building with a patch, sh NV*.run --extract-only ; apply patch ; cd usr/src/nv ; make module ; make install) Not to mention, if you read other posts there do seem to be some issues with 9629 so one might not want to go to it just yet. If I sound a little peevish, it is because of the timing of how the NV2 situation was communicated after the fact of a new driver release. You could have done this in such a way that we could have had a little time to plan out what to do. Last edited by martyj19; 12-01-06 at 09:52 PM. |

@martyj19: 1.0-9629 supports NV2x GPUs.

With my GeForce 3 Ti500 96.25 works well but with 96.29 there is no way to get some OpenGL running. 9629 supports NV2x but it don't works with this GPU. please solve this problem. |

I think I'm going to go back to 8776, this new driver has created a rediculous amount of problems. I feel like I am in windows: Everything is done automatically (calculate screen dpi, refreshrate, etc), and therefore, all my custom options from before are ignored.

How did 8776 do Dpi? I want my old dpi back....
Also, any modeline over 400 pixel clock wont work, and ive had it over for a long time now. And nvidia-settings -q shows 85 even after ive disabled the use of EDIDs... Last edited by BSD; 12-02-06 at 12:46 PM. |
