well how do you setup 1280x800 ?? I tried but still get only a black screen.

The funny thing is that the driver thinks is is all working fine so there are no errors in the log just a black screen.

It's been well over a month now I wonder when they will fix this it cant be a big problem since it works under windows and other cards handle it under linux.

The G80 dual link TMDS bug will be resolved in the next released driver.

Thanks,

Well The "next driver realease" doesn't help us when we have no clue when that will be. But anyway I had an XPS gen 2 and it had a similar problem. I detected as dual link but it actually wasnt (video bios problem) So I was able to get 1280x800 if I forced it. What I had to do was completely disable EDID using a bunch of options (I would have to look them up now) and used a 1280x800 modeline.

As Xevious mentioned "next driver release" means: it can be tomorrow, or it can be in 10 years. In other words, it doesn't mean anything.

So I figured spending the extra $70 (less than 3% of the total investment: 1800+ for monitor + 600+ for Gtx 8800) wasn't that bad to have the thing working on Linux -- where I actually get my work done, which pays for these toys.

Funny thing is ... I wouldn't accept this, as a consumer, in any other market ... So Linux is painful. But so is windows (for other reasons) ... we are really in bad times for computers now, I hope this gets better in the next 20 years or so.

Well, just the nightly rant, I guess you all understand the feeling ...

cheers
