Default Re: Legacy driver does not work/install on recent Linux distros

netllama,

It is the Mandriva 2007 problem I detailed earlier:

Does this problem persist if you're not using the Composite extension (which is unsupported in 1.0-7184)?

Please post the output from running 'glxinfo'.

Thanks,
Lonni

I get a "command not found" error message.

Please provide full path to me.

Thanks a lot

glxinfo should be in your $PATH if its installed. It seems that its not. You should contact Mandriva for assistance with installing glxinfo.

Thanks,
Lonni

The problem is fairly clear, you have no GLX support:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

I'll ask again. Does this problem persist if you're not using the Composite extension (which is unsupported in 1.0-7184)?

Disabling the Composite extension solved the problem on Mandriva 2007, now I can play 3D games.

Thank you very much for your help.

I will post my Fedora Core 6 and Ubuntu-related experience soon.

FC6 also presents some problems, I post a log as promised.

Issue: during installation, the Building kernel module progress bar reaches 100%, but after that I get an error message:
ERROR: Unable to build the NVIDIA kernel module.
ERROR: Installation has failed.

Any suggestions what could have gone wrong?
