Default Newbie.. problem in installing drivers..

Hello,

I've just installed Slackware 11 on my PC, and i am trying to install the drivers..

I have an MX 4000 card, and each time i get the same error msgs.

Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface
-> License accepted.
-> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li
ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f
rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes)
-> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site;
this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for
your kernel.
-> Performing CC sanity check with CC="cc".
ERROR: The CC sanity check failed:

The C compiler 'cc' does not appear to be able to
create executables. Please make sure you have
your Linux distribution's gcc and libc development
packages installed.
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com.
bash-3.1#

What can i do? Please, do keep in mind that i am new to linux.

Thank you!

Hi newbie,

I think you can get better help on a medium like IRC.
Unfortunately, I don't know a Slackware specific channel.
You could try hanging out on #linuxhelp on undernet
(http://www.undernet.org/) for example.

Anyway, from the looks of it you either didn't install
a compiler at all (you should install a package 'gcc'), you
simply don't have a 'cc' (should point to gcc) or something
else is missing to compile things on your box. You'd need
to look at the log files (as the error message tells you)
to find out what is the exact problem.
